When I was in college I had a leather mini skirt from Wilson’s at the mall. This was probably the epitome of late 1980s and early 1990s fashion, right? It was my go to “going out” skirt!
Fast forward and I haven’t worn leather anything lately but just bought a few faux leather items and two are from LOFT. (LOFT has been blowing me away with their sales.) We’re having a cooler than usual spring in Nashville and I’ve worn these faux leather leggings a few times. I wore them yesterday with a black shell blouse, a long taupe thrifted sweater from Goodwill and these fun Dr. Scholl’s canvas sneakers, which are also a favorite recent shoe purchase from Amazon.

The faux leather leggings got reviews and were on major clearance. I bought them on a whim and was pleasantly surprised that they are comfortable as they are lightly lined with a soft fabric. SPANX has incredibly popular faux leather leggings but honestly I have never wanted to pay nearly $100 for leggings!
Right now these faux leather leggings are out of stock, but the crop flare faux leather jeans get amazing reviews and you can get them for just $12.44 with code OHLALA! Faux leather leggings or jeans are a fun staple if you want to jazz up your closet beyond the usual black leggings or jeans. I also purchased faux leather pants from LOFT (now out of stock) and they are the same amazing material, but a dressier profile.
If you’re over 50 like me you might think these are “too much” for you but trust me, they are not!
And if you are petite (I am 5 ft. 1), consider purchasing the “regular” length in the faux leather crop flare jeans from LOFT for a more regular length.
Here are 5 ways to style faux leather leggings for over age 50 (but that are great at any age).
Faux Leather Leggings With a Tunic Sweater or Top
I prefer longer tops with leggings that cover my butt! Love this look from Fabulous After 40.

Faux Leather Leggings with a Graphic T-shirt
I’m having a hard time finding many photos of longer t-shirts (again, I don’t want my booty showing!) but I love this casual look. Add a few fun graphic t-shirts to your closet this year to update your style. I ordered and love this J Crew Factory Brooklyn DUMBO t-shirt and recently paired it with a faux leather pleated skirt from Walmart and black sneakers. I ordered a medium and it’s a great longer length t-shirt that you can tie in the front and leave longer in the back! A graphic t-shirt also looks great with leather pants, like the flare crop faux leather jeans from LOFT that I mentioned above. This is a great casual look from Everyday Teacher Style.

Faux Leather Leggings with a Classic White Blouse
One of my favorite over 50 bloggers to follow on Instagram is 50 is Not Old. The older I get the more difficult it is to find bloggers or Instagrammers over 50! I love how she used this beautiful vibrant pink color (one of my favorites) to really make her outfit pop! When it’s warmer out you could lose the scarf and wear a fun statement necklace and sandals in a fun color.

Faux Leather Leather Leggings with Belted Blouse
I love this look of faux leather leggings paired with a belted long printed blouse for another dressier look. Again in the summer you could wear different shoes. Outfit inspiration via Fabulous After 40.

Faux Leather Leggings with a Longer Sleeveless Top
Faux leather leggings aren’t just for fall or winter! Wear them in warmer weather with a longer sleeveless top and sandals or sneakers for an updated casual look with edge. Here I am wearing mine with a black shell blouse from LOFT (which I ordered in white once I realized how versatile it was and how comfy the fabric was.)

Hesitant about buying faux leather leggings or jeans? Take the plunge! Even Martha Stewart is wearing leather pants!
