I couldn’t let National Read a Book Day go by without mentioning one positive about COVID…I’m reading more! I had already made resolution to read more for pleasure in 2020 and now that I’m spending a lot more time at home it’s been easier to achieve.
I’m a big fan of the Nashville Public Library digital or “ebook” selection. Basically I request books through their system (I can have 10 books checked out at a time!) Typically most best sellers are not immediately available so I get an email letting me know when my book is available. I can then download it to my Kindle or my Kindle app on my iPad.
Lisa Jewell, a writer of thrillers out of the UK, is my current new favorite author. I love to consult recommended book lists from avid readers like my friend Amy Allen Clark of Mom Advice as well check out recommendations from Reese Witherspoon’s book club, Hello Sunshine. Lastly, I joined a book club in February! Although The Nashville Book Club (founded by Dawn of The Nashville Mom blog), was only able to meet in person once so far this year, I enjoyed reading their latest book pick – The Guest List.
Currently I’m reading The Lions of Fifth Avenue, which revolves around a woman whose grandparents once lived in an apartment in the New York Public Library in the 1930s.
Here’s what I’ve read so far this year (I’m aiming for two books a month.)
Then She Was Gone Lisa Jewell
An Unwanted Guest Shari Lapena
Rules of Civility Amor Towles
Inside Out: A Memoir, Demi Moore
The Last House Guest, Megan Miranda
