Happy weekend everyone!
I’ve been enjoying updating some things in our home since I now work full time from home and my girls are teens.
One trend I have noticed all over the place, especially Pinterest and Instagram, is buffalo plaid (also known as buffalo check). I love the red and black print for the holidays as it can also be used for Valentine’s Day. But I really like the black and white print as it can be incorporated year round.
I went to lunch with my sister yesterday and we looked at Christmas clearance items. I ended up buying this berry wreath and buffalo plaid bow. I like it because it’s more “wintry” than “Christmassy.” Or at least that’s what I am telling myself! I placed it on my yard sale find wood Lutyens style garden bench on our front porch and really love the way it looks (we have a red front door so it adds a nice pop of color.)
There are so many ways to add buffalo plaid to your home decor…here are a few ideas! I do tend to like black and white print the best as I think it is very versatile year round. It looks great with red or red plaid in the winter, lime green and country blue and even lemon yellow in the spring and summer and orange in the fall!
Table Linens
You can add a table runner, tablecloth, placemats or cloth napkins in a buffalo plaid print to update your kitchen without a big commitment. I also like to update my kitchen towels.
Pillows
I love using throw pillows to change things up and since buffalo plaid is so hot right now you can find tons of pillows featuring this trend. These pillow covers from Amazon are a great way to update pillows you may already have.
Ottomans
I love ottomans and this ottoman cover is a clever way to update an existing ottoman (which I am also all about…updating existing items!) or thrift store find.
Rugs
If you are a (slightly obsessed) fan like me of home decor accounts on Instagram then you’ve probably seen these black and white check rugs all over the place! They are a relatively inexpensive way to update your front door.
Dishes
If you have white dishes (our china is a white Wedgwood pattern) you can easily update your table setting with a few buffalo plaid items, from serving dishes to charger plates.
Window Treatments
Window treatments, specifically valances, are a relatively inexpensive update to a room!
Blankets and Throws
A throw is a relatively inexpensive way to add color to a room (and texture.)
Bonus tip because I couldn’t resist sharing this one… peel and stick wallpaper (this one is from Home Depot.)
