Fairos Is Working to Simplify Health Insurance

Note: This is a sponsored post written in conjunction with Fairos. All opinions expressed on my blog are 100% mine.

I’ve been self-employed now for a year and one of the biggest stress points has been health insurance. I have survived a variety of employment situations over the past six years (working full-time, working part-time and and working on my own). I have also worked with a variety of health insurance companies over the years and had to choose between several different options for myself and my family. It never gets easier! There’s got to be a way to simplify health insurance!

I recently participated in a conference call along with several other bloggers with a startup called Fairos. Fairos is looking to change what’s broken about medical insurance. Their team has been working with large companies to help their employees get the cheapest rates and the highest quality care for years. In that process they realized that no one paying more for insurance than individuals like us. They believe that is wrong, and plan to do something about it.

“Big medical” made our current health care system confusing and difficult to navigate. Since I joined the workforce more than 20 years ago, premiums have continued to go up and health insurance has just gotten more and more confusing. You’d think that with better technology and services it wouldn’t be that way! Fairos plans to provide solutions to this and hopes to see millions of people receiving the medical care they need without the crippling and confusing effects of high medical costs.

Fairos offers three services to help simplify health insurance for consumers:

  • Bill Negotiation The Fairos team will negotiate with the insurance company on your behalf to determine what savings are possible, and where there’s opportunities to reduce your overall costs. Think of them as sort of a medical bill concierge.
  • TeleHealth – This service would allow consumers to complete non-acute appointments (such as a sinus infection) with a doctor via email, phone or video call. This would be SUCH a time saver for busy families! Last year I had one doctor’s appointment basically all year that was non-routine and it was for severe poison ivy. I think about the time it took to head to the doctor’s office, park and wait and that doesn’t even include the actual one-on-one with the doctor! Then there was a trip to my local pharmacy and a return trip because it was going to take a few hours to fill my prescription.
  • Care-Coordination – Fairos can help establish the right schedule for each individual’s treatment journey, such as coordinating follow up appointments with your doctor and physical or occupational therapist post-hospitalization. It’s tough to keep track of all of these appointments and Fairos is here to help!

I’m now officially a poster child for the Sandwich Generation, helping take care of my aging parents while raising my own kids. Navigating the current medical and health insurance system in the U.S. can be confusing enough when you are trying to make the best decisions for your own family. When you begin to weigh in on options for your parents, it doesn’t get any easier!

I’ve seen health insurance become increasingly more costly and confusing. I am hoping that by the time my daughters enter the workforce full time and have families of their own that things will have improved!

I encourage you to take this survey from Fairos to help them improve their line of products and services in their quest to simplify health insurance.
