What To Wear When It’s A Scorcher of a Day (Or Night)

We are in the throes of summer humidity in Nashville, the kind of heat that leaves you wilted even when the sun goes down. We enjoyed a fun evening at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens last night and thankfully we all dressed for the heat. I spotted people wearing jeans, though, and it made me sweaty just looking at them! Rule number one for a hot and humid day, wear fabric that can breathe. That means avoid denim, unless perhaps is a lighter weight chambray, polyster, rayon and silk. Don’t get me started on sweaty pit stains that will ruin a silk blouse. No need for an epic fail, deodorant style.

Here are three tips for what to wear when the weather is 90 plus degrees and the humidity is equally as high. I’ve found some really cute consignment options on ThredUp, one of my favorite online shopping destinations for frugal finds. And be sure to click through this link for a $10 shopping credit.

1. A Maxi Dress

Being petite in height I used to shy away from maxi dresses, but thankfully they are so popular now that you can find them in a variety of sizes. A maxi dress is breezy and cool and depending on how you style it, can be beach casual or more cocktail hour appropriate.

2. A Strapless Sundress

Nothing says summer like going strapless. Worried about getting chilled if indoor AC is blasting? Bring along a lightweight cardigan.

3. Sleeveless with Details

A sleeveless top with pretty embroidered detailing or interesting stitching and a pair of shorts or a cotton skirt and sandals is a perfect look for a hot summer day. Embroidered touches are so in right now and I love the interest and feminine detail they add.
