Can you feel that Nashville? There is the slightest hint of fall in the air in the mornings when we get ready for school. Even my sleepy head tween and teen have noticed it! We were just talking about how much we love fall on the way to school and one of the things I love about fall is breaking out my sweaters, jeans, and boots.
Capsule wardrobes are all over Pinterest. What is a capsule wardrobe? It’s basically a minimalistic, but versatile, wardrobe that you can mix and match. I’m a big fan of maximizing every item in my closet. Today I want to share with you some of the items I think every mom needs in her fall closet.
6 Fall Wardrobe Basics Every Mom Needs
A Great Pair of Jeans – denim is the building block of any great fall outfit. I just got a pair of awesome dark denim skinny jeans from Isaac Mizrahi (review coming later) and can’t wait to wear them all fall. Whether you’re like me and prefer a classic darker wash, or you’re like my teenager and prefer distressed faded denim, a great pair of jeans will see you through every pumpkin spice latte you sip on this fall.
Sweater – The classic button-up cardigan sweater has been around since my mom’s teen years and will never go out of style. I prefer a looser open cardi now, such as this Aztec Cardigan Shawl Sweater from Humble Chic. Cardigans are perfect for layering and I have several solid sweaters that are fall favorites. J Crew outlet has some amazing cardis in bold colors on sale for just $29.50!
Classic Blazer – I just snagged an amazing black blazer on sale at JC Penney. A classic cut blazer will take you from a conference call to cocktails out with friends after work and can be dressed up or down.
Dressy Crewneck Top with a 3/4 Length Sleeve – A nicely made crewneck tee matches well with a statement necklace or bold scarf and can be worn with jeans, a skirt, or your sweater or blazer. The 3/4 length sleeve is neither summer or winter and a great inbetween staple.
Scarf – Solid infinity scarves are a favorite of mine and I want to pick up a graphic print scarf, such as the fun geometric print scarf featured below. Scarves are perfect for fall in the South as they add that additional layering piece, without a lot of actual bulk or warmth.
Leather Boots – Although I am most definitely a bargain shopper, one item you should not skimp on is a great pair of boots. A nicely made pair of classic boots, such as an English riding style, will never go out of style and is a great investment. My Elaine Turner black boots are going on their third fall now and even though I have replaced the heels, they are still in incredible condition.
The problem with many fall items after being stored away all spring and summer is the expense of freshening them up at the dry cleaners. That was until I discovered Dryel. Dryel is a great cost-effective alternative to taking your fall items to the dry cleaner.
