The open and spacious den in the HGTV Smart Home located here in Nashville. Love the vaulted ceilings!
One of the best things about living in Nashville is it’s a mecca for cool happenings. As a blogger I am fortunate to get an insider’s view of some of these happenings and last week I was invited to tour the 2014 HGTV Smart Home. This house is literally less than 15 minutes from my office ya’ll. I AM SO ENTERING TO WIN IT DAILY. At three stories, it’s a very livable house as the main living space is all on the ground floor (master bedroom and bath, kitchen, living room, utility room, and garage.) I also love the two outdoor spaces. There is a lovely deck off the main living room and a covered porch off the basement with built-in seating. Could I imagine sitting out on the porch in the evening enjoying a glass of wine? Oh yes I could.
Here’s a 90-second tour of this high-tech, yet cozy, English cottage style home.
And now for some pics from the official press release…
Upon entering the home, the first room you’ll see to the left is this gorgeous formal dining room slash office, although I’m a messy desk kind of girl and I’d probably set up office space in the very cool downstairs basement of this home, which actually offers a good bit of natural light.
The master bedroom is located immediately to the right as you enter the home. I love the peaceful neutral tones and I have almost the exact same sunburst mirror in our home! The touches of blue are nice and I love the graphic window treatments.
The gorgeous open kitchen space. To the left (outside of the photo) is a wonderful built-in cabinet with a coffee area, which I love.
Love the kid’s bedroom, which is located upstairs. My girls were especially excited about the built-in twin bed space, perfect for sleepovers, and may or may not have started fighting about whose room this would be, should we win.
I love this cozy upstairs seating area located between the kid’s bedroom and the guest bedroom. I can envision many popcorn and movie nights in this space, not to mention some Wii U action.
The basement is definitely not what I think of when I envision basement! It’s fun, funky, and inviting. The two sofas in this space open up to beds. How cool is this “stage?” I love the snack bar area, too. If you look in the far left corner you’ll catch a glimpse of the in-home gym.
5 Takeaways From the 2014 HGTV Smart Home in Nashville
Use local artwork – The walls of the 2014 HGTV Smart Home are warmly decorated with area artists, which pays homage to the many talented artisans in our area. Plus this can be a much more budget friendly option (not to mention it will add an eclectic vibe to your decor.)
Paint a chalkboard checklist – The basement gym of the HGTV Smart Home features a cool chalkboard wall with a painted grid for tracking workouts. You could take this idea into almost any room. How about bucket list wall for a play room or a chore grid in a utility room?
Use stripes to accent a wall – The upstairs kid’s bedroom (see pic above) features a neutral 3D wall of painted wooden boards but you could easily recreate the look by painting horizontal stripes in coordinating theme colors on one wall to recreate the look.
Search Etsy for unusual accessories – The basement music theme area has awesome upcycled 45 records as “bowls.” You can find these on Etsy. Love this Johnny Cash bowl!
Go green with succulents – I noticed several hearty and unusual succulent plants in the HGTV Smart Home. They are easy to grow (hurrah) and if you search Pinterest you’ll find lots of lovely and unusual ideas.
