Throwback Thursday: My Little Mermaid and a Disney Blu-Ray Giveaway

Disclosure: I was provided with a review copy of The Little Mermaid as well as one for giveaway but all opinions expressed in this post are my own.

This giveaway is closed. The winner is Erica C. Thanks to everyone who entered!

Some of our favorite family movies are from Disney and one of the joys of being a mom has been experiencing these magical movie moments for the first time with my girls, along with being reintroduced to classics such as Snow White.

Check out my little mermaid, my older daughter in 2007 when she dressed up like Ariel…total sweetness! Whenever I hear moms complain about princesses, I want to warn them, “One day you will miss the princess years!” Although these dress-up days are long gone, we can still relive a little bit of Disney magic through movies.

My Little Mermaid

One of our favorite Disney princess movies, The Little Mermaid, has been locked away in the Disney vault but this classic from 1989 is being rereleased just in time for the holidays. I can’t wait to sit down and watch it again with my girls.

Here are 10 Things We Love About The Little Mermaid:

  1. Ariel’s unquenchable thirst for adventure
  2. Her trusty sidekick Flounder
  3. When Ariel sees Prince Eric for the first time
  4. Sebastien the Caribbean crab
  5. The calypso beat of Under the Sea (which won an Academy Award for Best Song in 1989)
  6. The cute scene where Ariel mistakes a fork for a comb at the formal dining table
  7. The “near kiss” scene and feature song, Kiss the Girl
  8. Prince Eric’s adorable sheepdog
  9. When Ariel’s singing voice is restored
  10. The happily ever after ending, which is classic Disney

Here are a few deets from the official fancy pants (or should I say fancy fins) press release:

All-new bonus treasures Include “Part of Your World” music video Performed by Carly Rae Jepsen, deleted character: Harold The Merman, Disney Intermission (Crab-E-Oke Sing Along), and more! The Diamond Edition contains digitally restored picture and sound, a digital copy of the film.

Disney is also releasing a Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack that allows families to experience Ariel’s underwater adventures like never before in wondrously immersive 3-D. This combo pack includes the Blu-ray 3D, a Blu-ray, a DVD, a Digital Copy, plus a 10 Music Track Download.

“The Little Mermaid” is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale about a beautiful mermaid princess who dreams of becoming human. It was directed by John Musker and Ron Clements (“Aladdin”) and features the voice talents of Jodi Benson (“Toy Story 2,” “Toy Story 3”) as Ariel, Pat Carroll (“Laverne & Shirley”) as Ursula, Samuel E. Wright (Broadway’s “The Lion King”) as Sebastian, Christopher Daniel Barnes (“The Brady Bunch Movie”) as Eric, Kenneth Mars (“Young Frankenstein”) as Triton, Buddy Hackett (“The Music Man”) as Scuttle, Jason Marin (“Back to the Future”) as Flounder and René Auberjonois (“The Patriot”) as Chef Louis.

Film synopsis: Ariel  is a free-spirited mermaid, who is off on the adventure of a lifetime with her best friend, the adorable Flounder, and the reggae-singing Caribbean crab Sebastian at her side. But it will take all of her courage and determination to make her dreams come true—and save her father’s beloved kingdom from the sneaky sea witch Ursula.

The part I like in the movie is when she sees the fork at the table and starts combing her hair. Funny looks from the other characters.

My favorite part of the movie is when Ursula is singing and says, “and don’t underestimate the importance of BODY LANGUAGE.” The way she says it makes me laugh.
