I just downloaded a Couch to 5K app to my phone and I’m trying to get on the fitness wagon after falling off about a hundred times over the past decade or so.
I keep reminding myself that this is helping stave off the Food Baby Five, that five (ok maybe 6 or 7) pounds I put on every year between Halloween and New Year’s Eve. Every year I lose that winter weight, but the older I get I find that my metabolism has fallen and it can’t get up and I fully expect at some point that it’s going to just look at me and say, “You GOTTA be kidding me lady!”
Any way, the weather has been absolutely gorgeous in the evenings and just a teaser of fall and I’ve been wanting to get out and exercise as much as I can. Miss C and I went out tonight for a two-mile loop in the neighborhood and every time she breezed past me, completely unwinded and unsweaty in her 11-year-old glory, she asked, “MOM, why are you running so SLOW?” I reminded her I’m quadruple her age and in the process kind of blew my own mind with that little statistical tidbit. I’m going for distance at this point and not speed.
Along with my soccer girl sidekick empowering me around each bend with an enthusiastic “You can do it mom!,” there’s nothing more motivating to me than some favorite tunes when I am exercising. Here are some awesome girl power songs to get you moving.
- Cannonball, The Breeders
- Roar, Katy Perry
- So What, Pink
- Gold, Britt Nicole
- Applause, Lady Gaga
- Who Says, Selena Gomez
- Holla Back Girl, Gwen Stefani
- No More Drama, Mary J. Blige
