Silence is Golden, or In The Case of My New GE Dishwasher, Stainless

Silence, as they say, is golden. Once you have kids, though, you can toss sweet silence out the window as any quiet moments are usually interrupted with “MOM I need you!” or “MOM I’m hungry!” or the always classic “MOM I’m bored!” or “MOM she’s touching me!”

I’m a mom and chances are if you are reading this blog you’re a parental just like me. I am all about a little peace and quiet at the end of the day. Heck I’ll take that peace and quiet any time (3:45 on a Tuesday afternoon? I’m so penciling that in! Woot!)

One of the first things I noticed about our lovely GE Hybrid Stainless Steel Interior Dishwasher (aside from its stunning good looks) was the quiet. Our old dishwasher was so loud I would always run it when we were headed to bed.

Zoey and the GE Dishwasher

Zoey gives our new GE dishwasher two paws up for naptime quiet!

I asked the GE marketing manager who works on the GE Hybrid Stainless Steel Interior Dishwasher account just exactly what magical dishwasher mojo lies behind this silent, stainless beauty. Turns out there are three magic elements:

“We have created a removable filter system, which is common in many dishwashers, to reduce noise and get added energy and water benefits.  However, unlike any other dishwasher who has this type of filtration system, we have kept our hard food disposer inside to deliver consistent wash performance results.  We also alternate the water to the wash arms.  In other words, the lower wash arm turns and then the water is “diverted” to the upper and middle wash arm.  This allows us to deliver 65% more wash power to the upper and lower racks compared to our previous dishwashers.  So, the way we filter the water and distribute the water contributes to the low sound levels.”

“We have additional insulation in the door, around the outside of the unit and under the toe kick to quiet the sound of the motor, the water and the pumps.”

“And, your dishwasher is 48 dBA, which as you know (actually I didn’t…this dishwasher technology is a learning process for me,) is extremely quiet.  dBA is an average of the dBs throughout the cycle time.”

Thanks Dan, Dan the Dishwasher Man! Yes that’s his new official title at my house. I’m sure he’s printing this up on business cards as we speak.

Our fancy new GE dishwasher is awesomely quiet. It’s brought Zen to dish washing and THAT? Is awesome.

Is your dishwasher the loudest appliance in your kitchen?

Disclosure: I received a GE Hybrid Stainless Steel Interior Dishwasher in exchange for a series of posts reviewing the appliance.

Hey! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering
which blog platform are you using for this site? I’m getting
fed up of WordPress because I’ve had issues with hackers
and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform.
I would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
