I’ve been working with Lee Jeans for a few years now as a blog ambassador so when you see me out and about (and typically in jeans) I am more than likely wearing a pair from Lee.
I was so excited to get an invitation to visit Lee Jeans headquarters in Kansas City a few weeks ago. I had no idea what to expect. I knew that Kansas City is known for its barbecue but I’m from Nashville ya’ll. Tennessee can hold its own on the barbecue front. What I found was that not only does Lee have an incredibly interesting and long-time corporate history that is a great story of American entrepreneurship, but that Kansas City? Pretty well rocks. It is a beautiful city with a thriving downtown scene. Who knew? I need to get out more.
I’ve been proud to work with Lee because not only are they a great company that gives back to the community (their National Denim Day for breast cancer awareness and fundraising is every October 1) but their jeans are comfortable, stylish, and won’t cost you a second mortgage or prompt you to cut back on your wine budget, not that you’d EVER do that. Right?
Ready for dinner!
My Lee Jeans Kansas City experience kicked off in style with a limo ride from the Kansas City airport, champagne, and a Lee denim theme cookie that was almost too cute too eat. We went to dinner that night at with a few members of the Lee team and had an impromptu tour of the city on the way back to the hotel by our limo driver. My favorite quote of the evening was…”Blog up on that!” I loved learning more about Kansas City and had no idea it is the “city of fountains.” The area we were staying in was filled with great restaurants and shops.
The event kicked off the next morning with a breakfast with executives at Lee Headquarters. We heard from Angela Primavera, Director of Female Marketing for Lee Jeans, and were warmly greeted by President Joe Dzialo, only he was a sneaky c-suite kind of guy and didn’t wear his name tag so it took me a few minutes that we had actually been greeted by Lee’s president himself!
Bill Lynch, VP/General Merchandise Manager for Lee Jeans, was just one Lee’s leadership team we met with.
Primavera discussed the extensive research that goes into each new line of jeans. “We really stand for fit and innovation.” It’s very important to be empathetic to the consumer and to fill her needs, she added. It was fascinating to hear about the extensive consumer research that goes into Lee Jeans, even as detailed as going into consumers’ homes and delving into their closets to learn more about what they buy and what they wear.
We also took a tour through Lee’s Heritage Hall and learned about the extensive history of Lee as a brand. The company was founded in 1889 by Henry David Lee.

My favorite session was learning more from Lee’s fashion mavens, Amber Burke, product manager for female department stores, and Whitney Neary, associate merchandiser for Lee Jeans. These ladies are fashionable and forward-thinking. You might associate Lee with more conservative lines, but this duo travels travel to global fashion hot spots to anticipate and track trends in denim for the Lee Jeans brand. Seriously, though, I had no idea just what went into designing a pair of great-fitting jeans.
My favorite line of Lee Jeans has been Slender Secret, but there’s a new jean in town and it’s called Perfect Fit. The beauty of this jean is that it is the first line of blue jeans to have a hidden, sewn-in “shapetastic” compression panel in ye ole muffin top area. Hurrah! They’re like the mom-jean Kryptonite. I’m going to be giving away a pair of Perfect Fit jeans here on BlondeMomBlog later this month so stay tuned. Lee’s new Perfect Fit design is unique on the market and they fit fantastically and are comfortable. I love my new Perfect Fit skinny jeans.
Prior to the conference we had each filled out a denim fit survey and Lee’s Trend Manager Rachelle Moley had personally selected several pairs of jeans for us to try on and keep.

Quick fashion confession. I caught myself stalking Rachelle’s fabulous gold pumps. I’d never get away with wearing these but aren’t they gorgeous?
We also got to have fun during our own mini photo fashion shoot after having our hair and makeup touched up. Will I ever be a super model? Not likely. But it was a blast! Props to Lee Jeans for making this suburban soccer mom feel totally glamorous for the afternoon.

Now that I’ve met the amazing people behind your amazing company I’ll never take my jeans for granted again. I do need to wash my new Talullah jeans, though, as I’ve been wearing them nearly EVERY day since I got back from KC. Ahem.

I love the Lee jeans I won in a giveaway you did a couple years ago. Even though they’re boot cut and I mostly wear skinny now, they are the most comfortable with the slight stretch, and the BEST for getting down on the floor to play with kids because they don’t give me plumber’s butt!
