Celebrity Moms: Wiping Butts and Noses Like the Rest of Us

This giveaway is closed. Chrystal who commented September 18, “I think in a way they are only because they are celebrities and have to worry more about stalkers” won the $50 VISA gift card! Diane Kleemann who commented September 23, “I think celebrity moms have a great deal more help than us regular moms” is the winner of the $25 VISA gift card!

Edited to add: The lovely folks at Mom Life are offering up a fun giveaway as part of this post and I have two VISA gift cards up for grabs! See the end of the post for details. Giveaway ends. Monday, Sept. 24.

Personal Trainer? Nope, unless you count my dogs who motivate me every morning with their tail wags when I put on my running shoes.

Chef?  Nope, unless you count my hubby who is a fantastic cook.

Nanny? Hmmmm, how about my “manny,” my nearly 80-year-old dad who will babysit for me in a pinch but who will likely fall asleep in the recliner 10 minutes after I’ve left the house.

Driver? Um, that would most definitely be me.

Do celebrity moms with these celebrity perqs (that I definitely don’t have) really live that differently than the rest of us moms? Well, yes and no.

I had the fun opportunity to write a guest post on this topic over at Jen and Barb, Mom Life, a site which shares great videos about being in the trenches of motherhood. The topic this week is Are Celebrity Moms That Different Than Us?

Ali Landry, host of TV Guide’s show, “Hollywood Girl’s Night” and mother of two, is featured in this video about the ins and outs of being a famous mama.

Since I’m in Nashville, I though it would be fun to interview country music star and mom to two little ones Jo Dee Messina. Like me, Jo Dee is also featured regularly in The Tennessean’s Family section every month.  She has a great blog called Fumbling Mom (I love that name as I can so relate.)

Check out the great video on Jen and Barb, Mom Life featuring Ali Landry and read my accompanying interview with Jo Dee who was gracious enough to offer her unfiltered look at the realities of juggling life on the road as a performer and being a mom. Thanks Jo Dee!

And now for a fun giveaway. Do you think celebrity moms are different than other moms? Simply leave a comment on this post letting me know what you think; two winners will be randomly selected from all comments left by midnight CST Monday, Sept. 24. I have a $50 VISA gift card and a $25 VISA gift card up for grabs!

For up to five additional entries (please leave a new and separate comment on this post for each of these you do):

I’ll select two winners from all eligible comments using Random.org. Giveaway is open to U.S. residents, ages 18 and up.

Disclosure: This post was written for Mom Life and Dodge. I received monetary compensation for my post.

  1. Margaret Smith says:

I really don’t think that celebrity moms are much different from any other mom. They worry about their kids the same and have concerns like any other mom.

  2. Cynthia C says:

Celebrity moms may have a lot of help, but they have to deal with privacy issues that other mom’s don’t. I wouldn’t want those problems.

  3. Ali says:

I think it is two different worlds with different issues but they both have their issues. But it would be nice to swap places for a week.

  4. Mami2jcn says:

It depends on the celebrity mom. I’ve read some of them say they’re very hands on, while others rely solely on nannies. Overall I think they have it easier than the rest of us.

  5. Janet W. says:

I think celebrity moms are definitely different because they have hired HELP! Most of us can’t afford a babysitter all the time, and feel badly when always asking family members to watch our kids.

  6. Chrystal D says:

I think in a way they are only because they are celebrities and have to worry more about stalkers.

  7. ashley says:

I don’t think celebrities are too much different than non-celebrity moms… while they may have more resources at their disposal, in the end they are still like every other mom:a protector, a provider, and a teacher 🙂

  8. Amy Z says:

I definitely do! They have expensive nannies, tutors, and chauffeurs to practically raise their kids for them!

  9. Nicholas Walls says:

I think Celebrity moms are different from ordinary moms because they are busier than them. Like going to the viedoshoot. The ordinary moms cook, clean, help the kids get ready for school, dishes probably helps with homework.

  10. Elena says:

I think celebrity moms are different because they can afford to have babysitters, cooks, maids etc and have more time for themselves

  11. patricia skinner says:

I think Celebrity moms love thier children but I think the pressure is very intense on celebrity moms as they have to worry about the press and being judged for every move they do or do not do.

  12. Karen says:

Yea, they are different because they are in the limelight all the time. They also, most (not all) have a “team” to take care of their kids.

  13. Valerie Taylor Mabrey says:

yes they never take the backseat in life unless it is in a limo. They have no idea what noraml moms give up and do with out for the family

  14. paige chandler says:

I think celebrity moms are different. More pampered, more money, and more opportunities. Sigh.

  15. Tari Lawson says:

In some ways I think they are different. They certainly don’t have to worry about money so they can give their children the best of everything that the average mom would love to provide for the child but simply cannot afford to.

  16. Jimmy says:

Yes they are different. Celebrity moms have many advantages (money, help) that regular moms don’t have.

  17. Sarah S says:

I think celebrity moms are different in that money is easy to come by. As a result their children learn a different set of values in terms of work, being responsible with money, etc. Not to mention other social/class norms that are different.

  18. Barbara M says:

Yes I think they’re different in the respect that it would be difficult raising their kids with some much spotlight on them.
    Thank you.

  19. Suzanne says:

I do think they are different. They would be more in the spotlight and critiqued for everything.

  20. renee walters says:

think celebrity moms are different because they don’t have to worry about saving for their child’s college education.

  21. Laura Jacobson says:

Oh I think they are just like us in some areas…and a little different in others! They go thru the same things as us, exept all of theirs is caught on video tape by paparazzi! But, I also think they are different as they have their own cooks, housekeepers, nannys ect…..so some of them do not do all the daily stuff for their kids alot of the time that the rest of us do.

  22. DeeAnn S says:

I think celebrities are like most other working moms. They have to balance their work and family life like the rest of us and it’s not always easy. Thanks.

  23. Heather S says:

In many ways they are the same. They just have the added stress of the press and people trying to dig up dirt on them constantly which affects their family.

  24. LOIS PAYTON says:

the press should stop taking all the rally bad pictures and leave the kids alone, GOD BLESS AND KEEP YA;LL SAFE IN HIS LOVING ARMS.

  25. Francine Anchondo says:

I think there no different from us expect more people know who they are and sometimes try to intrude into their lives

  26. Kim Henrichs says:

They’re different in the fact that they’ve got unlimited resources and funds for super good foods, the schools they want, trips, nannies, etc. They can afford to be home for any length of time as well. I think they are the same in loving their children and wanting the best of them of course.

  27. Lim says:

In that they love their kids and have to put up with everyone scrutinizing how they are raising them, they are the same.

In terms of money/what they are able to provide…not quite as much. But normal folks get the benefit of anonymity.

  28. Steve Stone says:

They have to balance their work and family life like the rest of us and it’s not always easy.

  29. brandy says:

Ina way celebrity Mom’s are like regular Mom’s but in other ways they are not. Working mom’s have a budget they have to sometimes work 2 jobs just to provide for their family. Celebrity Mom’s have no idea what it is like to budget money. They don’t have to worry about providing food and shelter for their children because they have millions of dollars.

  30. erik says:

I dont think there is a difference between “normal” moms and celebrity moms… all looking out for the child’s best interest.

  31. sassy says:

I think they are different from us. I don’t know just not down to earth and as common in my opinion.

    sassysasha817 at gmail dot com

  32. Nicole Larsen says:

I think the only difference between normal everyday moms and celebrity moms, is that they have WAY more help than we do–ei: nanny, money, babysitters, etc

  33. Tara says:

Yes, celeb moms are nothing like real moms because most of them have full time nannies! In my opinion, the moms act more like babysitters than moms!

  34. Electron S. says:

I do think celebrity moms are different than regular moms. They probably have to be more guarded and protective of the kids due to the paparazzi and crazy fans.

  35. Richard Morris says:

I think they are the same in the eyes of their kids but the public views the celebrity parents differently

  36. melissa griffith says:

Besides having more money and possible security concerns, I believe they love their kids as much as any other mom would.

  37. dario says:

I think some are different because of their careers and money probly have nannies and au pairs raising the children

  38. Jennifer says:

Totally different! Kids are expensive and extremely time consuming… two things that hollywood moms don’t have to worry about!

  39. MelissaO says:

I hate to say it, but I really do think many are different. When the going gets really tough with raising the kids, they always have enough $$ to pass the kids off to hired help and take a break before pulling their hair out. I bet children of celebrities don’t see their moms as being as frazzled as normal kids do.

    wolverina401 at gmail dot com

  40. Helen Stockwell says:

I do because most of them rely on nannies to help take care of their kids while “normal” moms do it themselves each day

  41. Sarah L says:

Celebrity moms just have different problems. Money will solve some of them, but not all.
    Thanks for the contest.

  42. Rachel Travis says:

I think essentially they’re the same…depends on the priorities!!

    rachelmarietravis at gmail dot com

  43. Aimee Fontenot says:

I think in many ways most celebrity moms can be different than “regular” moms in what they can provide to their children in terms of materials. I think they’re the same as working moms for the most part.

  44. Lindsey m says:

In some ways theýre the same but they have money for nannies etc so probably have a bit more time for themselves!

  45. Dee says:

I think they are different in terms of resources — nannies, top notch baby products, etc. But in terms of being a mom and loving their kids — same as everyone else! 🙂

  46. Cindy Merrill says:

I think celebrity moms have more to worry about- stalkers, for example. It’s hard enough raising kids today as it is without worrying about some creep trying to “get close” to the kids.

  47. Lynn R says:

I think they have more help and nannies etc than normal people do, but I also think they must have to wipe some noses and butts like the rest of all of us moms. Great question.

  48. Claire says:

Depends on the mom, I suppose.. “normal” moms don’t usually have the ability to have a full-time nanny like celebrities do.

  49. Tracie says:

Celebrity moms most likely don’t have the often huge financial worry/stress that a lot of non-celeb moms have.

  50. Alexa B. says:

i think some of them are different in the fact that they miss a lot of accomplishments their children make and they allow nannies to take the role as mom. not all of them do this though.

  51. Beth S. says:

I don’t think there’s any way there couldn’t be differences between celebrity moms and non-celebrity moms. Commonalities too, sure, but celebrity moms have more leeway to hire nannies, usually need to spend more time away from the kids (depending on the nature of their occupation – for example, needing to travel to be on location for movie shoots, etc.). I’m sure many are great moms, though, with lots of parenting resources at their disposal.

  52. Stacey Cockrell says:

I do believe they are. They have more money and appear to be more worried about appearances.

  53. Mary Cloud says:

I definitely believe celeb moms are different – they have enough money to buy their kids everything they want and even hire nannies if they’re tired and want a break

    annabella @ centurytel dot net

  54. Beth Palacios says:

I think it all depends on the celebrity mom and how involved they are in the child’s life. I think some may be different because they have help and don’t go through the ups and downs most women go through (sometimes daily!) with their children. Those women don’t realize the rewards they are missing out on though…. 🙂

  55. Sharon says:

I don’t think their different necessarily…maybe just harder for them to be the moms they want to be for their children since they are in the limelight so much.
    Thank You!

  56. s riches says:

I think that it makes no difference. There are good and bad celebrity moms and good and bad non celebrity moms

  57. Pauline M says:

Celebrity moms definately have the funds to splurge but dealing with all the baby issues remains the same for all of us!

  58. Chase says:

I think that celebrity moms have a more difficult time raising grounded children who can fit in with the rest of society.

  59. Carla says:

Of course they’re different. A lot of them don’t have to take care of their own kids, even when they’re at home, because they have a nanny. They can get their shape back quick after giving birth because they afford surgery or a trainer.

  60. Ciara B. says:

they’re definitely different. they don’t have to worry about money ever and have a ton of people around to help them

  61. Tammy Klain says:

They definately are different because they do not have the financial struggles we do. Tonight my daughter told me she needed 80.00 for her class trip and yearbook. Followed by ” I know we can’t afford it right now so lets sell my bicycyle.” I do not think a celebrity mom will ever feel that pride or heartbreak.

    Gardenstatemom at aol dot com

  62. Jodi J says:

I really think it depends on the purpose. Some are no different. They go to their job, have someone watch the kids, then take care of them when they get home. Others, rely on fulltime nannies.

  63. Deb C says:

I think Celeb Moms are different. They do have some of the same worries as we do, health, development, happiness etc. But they usually don’t have the worries of how to pay for college or just day to day needs of a child. Then again, they have worries we most likely don’t, for instance: unwanted attention from media, kidnapping for monetary gain and such.

  64. a marie hj saver says:

I would think if they were celebrities before they became moms then maybe they would not be used to being as giving as most moms have to be, but if they already were moms hopefully they know that family is more important.

  65. Jennifer Reed says:

I do somewhat think that celebrity moms are different than other moms in that they are really held under a microscope for their lives. It would have to be a difficult position to be in, especially for a new mom.

  66. Deanna G. says:

I do think they’re different. They don’t have to struggle with paying bills or worry they’re not giving their kids all the things they need.

  67. Ta T says:

Celebrity moms are def different. They have alot more stress. ( not being able to spend much time with their kids, stalkers, and paparazzi)

  68. Sarah says:

Since I don’t personally know any celeb moms, it’s hard to say but I would assume they are different in that they probably have nannies and other household helpers that the average mom doesn’t have.

  69. Jeanette H. says:

I think celeb. mom’s are both different and the same. Different in that their lifestyle is different. They worry about their children being harassed by media and crazy people. The same that most care about their childrens health, education, and other well being.

  70. Susan Smith says:

I think Celebrity Moms are different. They do have some of the same worries as we do worrying about their childrens health, development, grades etc as us non celebrity Moms and while they usually don’t have have to worry about paying the bills they do have the concerns of being followed by the paparazzi and having their Moms talked and written about.

  71. Gaye M says:

I think celeb moms are spared some of the everyday worries that many of us have. Financial security means the ability to have good quality food in sufficient amounts to feed your family, to provide the best medical care and purchase clothing, shoes and toys. Security and unwanted attention would be problems.

  72. clynsg says:

Basically, they are probably the same as far as the love of their children, but they would have far different concerns for day to day life, mostly involving finances and exposure to outside things like paparazzi.

  73. Ashley says:

I don’t think that celeb moms are much different than us moms. It just depends on the type of mom. A mom can be a celebrity but not take in and use all of the available people to do for them and their children. Some take care of their children, just as we do. No nannies to take care of their kids, just school or daycare. No chefs. They may cook themselves or may just go out to eat more than we do. I don’t believe that we can say that their is much difference between celeb moms and us moms because it all boils down to the personality and independence of the mom. There are some celebs that do use all of the extra availabilities to them such as nannies, chefs, dog trainers, etc., just because they have the money to do so. While others, like to take care of their children and themselves on their own. And its the same with us non celeb moms. There are some moms who aren’t celebrities but still have the means to have nannies, maids, chefs, etc., but choose not to because they like to take care of their family themselves. While other non celeb moms, rich or not, just don’t want the responsibility of taking care of their children and their household. They would rather see someone else do it. The celeb moms do have a few differences from us non celeb moms as far as stangers and public media always following them around and interrupting their personal lives, untrue rumors, etc. But us non celeb moms have problems of our own as well. I think all “true” moms are really no different from each other, celeb or not. We all have obstacles with our children in life, just different types, and we all have to figure out a way to get around them or resolve them.

  74. christal c says:

I dont think they feel any different about their children than us normal moms, but I do think they handle certaind daily or major concerns differently

  75. r hicks says:

They are only different in that they have hired help with rearing their kids.

im sure they are like the rest of us and make and learn from their mistakes except their life is under a microscope so they dont have the freedom most moms have of taking their kids out in public

  78. latisha depoortere says:

I would say some Celebrity moms are different and are some are not! Some you read about spend more time being a mom and some don’t! Thanks for sharing this post !

i think behr paint (behr.com) has something like that, but i beileve there is a $5 fee i’ve not used it, but i have looked at colors on the website before. also you can pick up the paint booklets/chips at home depot (from behr) and the booklets has complimentary colors and shows the paint in different rooms.i personally like the behr paint (semi gloss) because its wonderful for being able to clean it especially with kids and crayons, markers, finger paints, etc. it is a little costlier than most paints, but it covers great and last great also if you use the behr paint and there is something wrong with the paint itself a behr representative will come out and paint your walls for you (there has to be something

  79. Lisa Garner says:

I do think celebrity moms are different because they don’t have financial concerns that affect how they must raise their children. They can afford private schools, the best foods, the safest toys and clothing while normal parents have to sacrifice or go without to provide these things for their children.
    lisalmg25 at gmail dot com

  80. Melissa VandenBerg says:

I think a mom is a mom. Celebrity moms have a chance to give their kids more which I don’t always envy. They also have to live in the spotlight which I don’t envy at all!

  81. Erica C. says:

I think a lot of celebrity moms have more help (from nannies, etc) with child care, and they have more money for everyday items. However, I think they have the same concerns as every mom.

  82. Jennifer Peaslee says:

Yes, I think they’re different. They have people who can do stuff for them, so it lessens the load. jenniferpeaslee at gmail dot com

  83. Jenny says:

I am sure celebrity moms deal with all the same issues as us, but of course I am sure the luxury of hiring a nanny must make things a tad bit easier some days!

  84. Christina Ziegelmeier says:

I think celebrity Mom are the same as in wanting the best for their children but I also think they are different because they have means to do things or to make things easier for them as in financially or help.

  85. Victoria M. says:

They are the same. Just because they’re celebrities it doesn’t mean they’re not capable to take care of their child.

  86. AEKZ2 says:

Yes, I do think that many are different, because they that more resources and money to hire nannies, cleaning services, etc

  87. carol le says:

I think they might have advantages such as help, yet I prefer to do things myself, because I care.

  88. Kerrie Mayans says:

I think celebrity moms are different from other moms because they have more resources and are watched more than regular moms.

  89. meme says:

In one way I think they are because of their resources but in another I think they are the same because they love and worry about their kids like everyone else I don’t think money changes that.

  90. Stephanie Linza says:

Celebrity moms have personal trainers and often times chefs, that must make things easier!

  91. brian e. says:

Thanks for the giveaway…celebrity moms have to excel in time management skills, work & family.

  92. Lyndsey R. says:

Yes, I do. Celebrity moms are not at the house as much, sometimes gone for months at a time. Therefore, they must hire nannies to care for their children. My son depends on me daily. I couldn’t imagine being away from him for more than a couple days.

    Lyndsey.rullman at hotmail dot com

  93. claire says:

i agree that they are different. they have a lot more resources, so they could choose to work or spend more time with the kids, whatever they want
