I Love The Smell of Crayons in the Morning

Supplies of days gone by…sweet Disney Princess backpack and all.

Every year I say I’m going to buy the ready made school supply packs offered by our PTO to save time but every year I “forget.”

Who am I kidding, really?

I LOVE THE SCHOOL SUPPLIES.

New crayons? Make me giddy.

Fresh notebooks? Make me smile.

Colorful folders? Make me drool.

Where I fail, and miserably so, at grocery store couponing and meal planning I make up for in the school supply aisles.

Maybe I’m reliving my youth as my rural elementary school years in the 70s and 80s were sadly deprived of many school supply options. There was one school supply store in town and Target didn’t exist (SHUDDER). I remember being all cool and big time with my denim three-ring notebook plastered with scratch and sniff stickers. When Trapper Keepers hit the scene I was overjoyed. In high school I loved the tiny closet of a school supply store where you could blow your change on cool pencils and fun, squishy pencil grips and folders with colored photos of adorable kittens or puppies.

This weekend I was at Staples with hubby and Miss A to pick up a few things. As we were finishing up I spotted a binder on Miss C’s list but I was completely indecisive as to what color to get for her (she was at a friend’s house for the day.) Finally I grabbed a bright blue binder as it matches the color of her new travel soccer jersey. Yes. As a matter of fact I am a tad OCD.

“MOM,” groaned an exasperated Miss A, practically tugging my arm off to snap me out of my school supply coma. “That’s a great color. COME ON. Let’s GO…”

As we rounded the corner and began walking toward the checkout line I spotted some colorful pencil cases. “Wait! There’s just one more thing I want to check out!”

If I ever sign up for a 5K I’m going to channel this feeling. Never underestimate the endurance of a mom fueled by iced coffee and the allure of new school supplies.

I thought I was the only one who could spend THOUSANDS and HOURS at Staples! I used to love shopping for supplies at our local Cost Cutters (awesome prices, miss that store). I am positively giddy that I get to buy supplies again for my daughter this year and she doesn’t get input – it’s all me!

You are not alone in your obsession. 🙂

We have a staples over here in Scotland as well and I love it, totally. I wish we had Target though as so many of you rave about the clothes and shoes.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one obsessed with school supply shopping. 🙂

Staples has a great $5 printable coupon online just fyi. I was especially giddy about that. Headed to Target today with my mom. TOTAL ADDICT HERE. 😉

Your mom is no longer buying school supplies,
but – I love looking at the colored notebooks,
fresh magic markers, new calendars and still
love the look and smell of fresh crayons that I
    would buy for my grandchildren.
Such an assortment is now available and in
my past there was not much out there 🙂

School supplies are the best – especially freshly sharpened pencils and those markers that smell so good, the fat ones maybe starts with an S? I see them perfectly in my mind.

My fetish isn’t limited to just school supplies. I love office supplies in general!! Give me a day at Staples, and I’m in heaven! I have to keep reminding myself that I really don’t need to spend all that money on office supplies…

I am the same way! I always love getting supplies, there’s just something so gratifying about it. Usually Walgreen’s has a lot of great rebates for them, too!
