A Busy Mom’s Fall Serenity Prayer

God, grant me the serenity to accept the fact that the 6-year-old will change her mind daily about what she’s dressing up as for Halloween

Courage to not give into her indecisiveness and buy an overpriced costume that literally falls apart in the street while she trick or treats

And wisdom to know how to sneak the “good chocolate” from her candy stash without her noticing

God, grant me the serenity to accept the fact that those 5 bottles of school silent auction wine were not mine to keep any way

Courage to not volunteer for class silent auction coordinator for a third consecutive year in 2012

And wisdom to know that any time I think a volunteer position will be easy and something I can easily tackle during my lunch break, it bites me in the ass

God, grant me the serenity to go into a Zen like trance when I drive the 9-year-old and two of her friends high on sugar home from a birthday party

Courage not to lost it every time they scream TURN IT UP! from the back seat and roll down the windows and make obnoxious armpit motions to other motorists

And wisdom to know that some day they may be parents to tween girls who do the exact same thing to them

God, grant me the serenity to know that travel soccer season is almost over

Courage to face two more back-to-back soccer on steroids tournament weekends

And wisdom to know that my girl loves this sport and that we’re doing right by logging many hours at practice and cheering from the sidelines

  1. Heather says:

You are a good (and funny) mom. We have daily Halloween costume decisions around here, too. But I think everyone has finally settled on something.

Hope you have a good rest of the week!

  2. Jamie says:

Thanks all and Heather send some of that Halloween costume decisiveness mojo my way!!!! So not wanting to trek around in search of The Great Costume when we have our cool pirate gear. 😉
