Headed To California

I’ve been invited to a couple of automotive industry social media events now and I was thrilled to receive an invite to Honda‘s Ride n’ Drive event unveiling the 2011 Odyssey later this week, even if I am not a minivan mama. The first car that the hubby and I sat down together to buy shortly after getting married was a white Honda Civic.  It was the car he navigated down rainy side streets at 3 a.m. to Baptist Hospital in downtown Nashville when I was in labor with Miss C back in 2002. We no longer have the Civic, but he drove it until it had more than 150,000 miles.

I’ll be staying in La Jolla, which is just beautiful this time of year and I look at the Weather Channel forecast for this week and fantasize that it’s this way all year because it’s this time of summer when I long to escape the heat and humidity of Middle Tennessee. I’ve been to San Diego once pre-kids (are you detecting a mama used to travel before gettin’ knocked up pattern?) and it’s gorgeous.

Yesterday I received a followup email saying that myself and the 10 other women bloggers invited to this week’s Ride n’ Drive will be attending Variety magazine’s Power of Women luncheon in Beverly Hills Sept. 30! Looking at photos from last year I couldn’t help but get excited. The guests included such power house women in entertainment as Christina Applegate, Christina Aguilera, and Sigourney Weaver. Even though I live in Nashville it’s not like I am mingling with the stars on a daily basis. Or. Ever. I mean my day to day life is pretty darn ordinary: school, work, soccer, homework, housework, and trying to figure out what the heck to make for dinner. Now I’m wondering what the heck to wear to a red carpet luncheon in Beverly Hills!

Honda asked those of us attending the Ride n’ Drive event to define what the Power of Women means to us. Our essays are featured on the Honda Odyssey Facebook page.

The first thing that came to mind was the influence of women as mentors and peers in my girls’ lives. I also believe strongly in the power that my girls can find within themselves.

I would be honored if you’d consider voting for my essay! Voting ends at 8:59 p.m. Thursday PDT.

Everyone had great insights to share. The two voters receiving the most votes will be Red Carpet correspondents at the Sept. 30 event in Beverly Hills!

p.s. I decided last week to launch a Facebook page for Blonde Mom Blog. I have a personal page, but I keep it fairly locked down since I post a lot of photos, but I would LOVE it if you’d also “like” my blog Facebook page! I have so many additional notes and video I shoot from trips, it will be a great place for fans of my blog to connect and get some behind-the scenes looks at what I’m up to.

    LOL! Oh Lord no. 😉

Well I DO have the 80s big hair to do that, though (but maybe not bikini worthy.)
