I recently wrote about what I recommend fashion wise for conference wear because clearly I am an authority as I sit here early this morning wearing my pajama bottoms and t-shirt and glasses with a lens that keeps popping out.
All kidding aside, I do love to shop and I took full advantage of traveling to New York to buy some cute things, especially cocktail dresses. I just don’t get to shop often enough. But WHO does? Unless you’re on one of those Real Housewives shows…and like those are real depictions of real housewives. Please.
The editor from New York fashion website The High Low (they had me at their Mad Men articles and their philosophy that style can come from anywhere), interviewed me about what I would do to change WalMart if I were in charge of their fashion line.
And yes, I had plenty of opinions.
I was traveling to New York the day we tried to connect and ultimately found that the Philly airport ladies room proved to be a quiet spot for a phone interview. You know…inbetween flushes.
Where do you buy most of your clothes? I’d have to go with TJ Maxx.
Good interview, Jamie!
I think one aspect would have to be the shopping experience. I love Target because I love the shopping experience. Starbucks, clean store, absence of gross smells–you know. I have yet to find a Wal-Mart that delivers that same kind of pleasantness. When I think of clothes shopping, it’s just not that pleasant to think of going to Wal-Mart. It’s like buying clothes in a warehouse, as opposed to a store.

Oh I love me some Target. It’s a treat to go there, whereas WalMart is more of a glorified grocery store to me.
What a fun way to wake up this morning…and I thought it was going to be serious. If you want to hear where a “70 something” buys her clothes….Coldwater Creek would be my answer. Online shopping at their outlet is great.

I buy most of my clothes at Gap .If it is something slightly fancy I go with Garnet Hill or Black Market/White House. I do most of my shopping online. We have a Gap in our town but not much else. About once per season, I make a road trip to the outlet mall.
Amie, I looked online at Black Market/White House and LOVE love their clothes. I need to check them out in person.
Balisha, I have a pair of khaki capris from Coldwater Creek…they have nice jewelry, too, I think.

Nordstrom rack – love it! Also Target is always a good pick. It is SUCH a great feeling to get out and spend a day shopping b/c since my baby was born I never do it. Anything I ever buy is for everyone else in my house – baby, hubby or dog!
I can honestly say that I am not a fan of shopping. I tend to stick to basics. Never get beyond basics if truth be told. I’m glad that style can come from anywhere. I will hope it finds me one day. 🙂
PS: I get O magazine and I am jealous of your Target. Sincerely wish they offered online shopping.

And for a different perspective on shopping at Mal-Wart: http://leisahammett.com/the_journey_with_grace/2008/11/the-wal-mart-story-every-autism-parent-has-one.html
