Of Red Carpet Ladies And Bearded Men

I don’t watch much TV, but I did catch about an hour of the Golden Globes before watching the two-hour season premiere of 24. Jack, Jack, Jack!

I love it when Hollywood gets all dolled up for the red carpet. Here are some of my likes and dislikes.

I think you either loved or hated Drew Barrymore’s dress. I thought she looked classy and gorgeous but all you dress haters have me now thinking sea anemone or fungus every time I see the decorative little flourish on her shoulder strap.

Amy Adams looks lovely pregnant and the color of her dress was beautiful with her hair and eyes.

Speaking of redheads, I thought Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks was smokin!

Lots of ladies chose black and I’d probably do the same.

I would describe Cher as very well preserved.

Jennifer Aniston is always gorgeous (although I want to brush her hair in this picture.)

Jennifer Anniston Golden Globes

Glenn Close looked fabulous.Glenn Close

I didn’t quite get Julianne Moore’s dress…at all. She is so lovely and, well, this dress is completely shapeless.

Now on to last night’s season premiere of 24 on Fox. I loved seeing the softer side of Jack with his granddaughter. I think this might be the season that the women characters dominate, especially with Katee Sackhoff (loved her in Battlestar Galactica) joining the cast as CSI agent Renee Walsh and Renee Walker (played by Annie Wersching) returning. It’s a tale of two Renees already.

I kept thinking the actress who played freelance journalist Meredith Reed in cahoots with President Omar Hassan on 24 last night looked familiar. Jennifer Westfeldt is Jon Hamm’s girlfriend! And you know I love me some Jon Hamm. Although I don’t love his beard. They still looked stunning on the red carpet, though. At least Hamm’s beard looks more debonaire than Brad Pitt’s.

So what were your likes and dislikes from the Golden Globes? I guess I need to finally see Avatar. And are there any 24 fans out there? It’s our one don’t miss show this winter.

  1. Musings of a Housewife says:

I didn’t see the Golden Globes but I sure did love Jack! Jack! Jack!

Except for some reason I was really rooting for him to get on that plane to L.A. Not that there would be a season 8 if he did that, or anything. But he just seemed to happy and well adjusted. For once. le sigh.

  2. Jamie says:

Oh me, too…me, too! Although there would be no show if Jack just hopped on a plane and lived in L.A. happily ever after as “grandpa.”

  3. Eileen says:

I thought Drew was really cute being all nervous….I would totally be that way up there. My daughter said those things looked like caterpillars!

I also loved seeing the cast of Mad Men looking so 2010.

  4. Elizabeth says:

I thought the same thing about Drew’s dress, that it looked like sea anemones were stuck to her shoulder and hip. But her speech was so sweet, how she was so flustered and thanking everyone in the room for being her family, I forgave her for the dress choice.

Cher looked a little too Morticia Adams for me, but I thought Christina Aguilera looked really pretty. Meryl Streep’s makeup seemed too pale with her dark dress and red lips. Jim Parsons looked snazzy in his suit!

  5. Nap Warden says:

Well, you already know my picks. I really wanted to like Drew’s dress, but I just kept seeing coral, or some sort of sea creature sitting on her dress:P

  6. siobhan says:

I thought I was the only one who liked Drew Barrymore’s dress! I thought she looked so pretty. I could’ve done without the mid-section sea anemone but thought overall it was great.

    P.S. A friend e-mailed me a link to your blog. I like it 🙂

  7. Jamie says:

Siobhan: Yes I think one sparkly sea anemone on the shoulder strap was enough (LOL). But I did think she looked pretty.

Elizabeth: Cher looks like she’s been Botox’d a dozen too many times. She looks downright wax like!

Did anyone watch 24 last night…no spoilers here but WOW on Renee. She is hard core! It’s kind of interesting to watch she and Jack switch styles. He seems like a softy now.

  8. Amy says:

I missed watching it and this is the first dress recap I have seen…I know, I am so lame. I couldn’t agree with those thoughts more. Poor Julianne Moore. She is so lovely what a horribly shaped dress!

  9. Sarah G says:

I didn’t watch the Golden Globe, but I did love seeing the pictures of Drew Barrymore in the morning paper. 🙂 She’s one of my favorite actresses – charming, beautiful, and sweet! And, I’m a 24 fanatic…only problem, I get so scared after I watch an episode that I can’t sleep at night. My hubby keeps threatening to not let me watch it anymore. 😛

  10. Ann says:

I didn’t see the show this year….thanks for the highlights. Not a 24 watcher and I could kick myself for not starting it earlier on… there’s always rentals.

  11. Colleen says:

Oops, didn’t watch it this year, but I loved your commentary. I thnk the green of Amy A’s dress is perfect too. Sorry, don’t watch 24 much either. I watched the first season, but never got hooked with the following ones. We’re addicted to Burn Notice though. (Not sure how or why)
