Kumbaya, Oh My Lord

Last night Miss C’s first grade class, as well as two others, put on a music program during the evening PTO program in a ploy otherwise known as, “Guaranteed Attendance.” Hey, it worked. More power to the PTO!

The program was wonderful and the hubby videotaped it the best he could with a squirmy Miss A vying for his lap the entire time. Miss C’s music teacher did an excellent job of directing the kids.

About two weeks ago Miss C asked me if I knew Kumbaya and when I started singing it her eyes grew wide. “You KNOW Kumbaya mommy?” She was clearly impressed that I knew such an exotic song. Only a first grader would find their mother singing Kumbaya remotely cool.

Miss C has been telling me for days that she was playing the drums (which turned out to be a small bongo drum) during Kumbaya and I thought it would be fun to look up the song on YouTube last weekend. I found everything else, typical of YouTube, but I couldn’t find the version she was looking for. She then proceeded to sing Kumbaya at the top of her lungs over and over and over.

She has more songs to practice for next week’s end of the school program, which does not include Kumbaya. Not that I’m thankful or anything.

Hee hee – we endured the 5th grade band concert last night. While it’s amazing that anyone can make kids so young sound like anything with instruments they just learned to play this year, it was still painful! LOL

  2. Kel says:

Too cute…I just love it when the kids still think we’re cool because we know something they do – isn’t it funny how that works (as if we’re OLD or something?!) 🙂 haha

It’s so nice to think that our kids think we’re cool because we know something they thought we don’t know..LOL. Sometimes when my kid asked me something he learned from school and if I answered it correctly, he would say, “mom, you’re so cool!”
Anyway, I love this Kumbaya song, too. My friends and I used to sing this song during our summer camp.
