My iPhone Brings All The Geeks To The Yard

Hubby and I fall under the old and married Valentine’s gift clause. We haven’t exchanged presents the past few years. We’ve been much more practical. Maybe not quite Hank and Peggy from King of the Hill practical…“Uh. Peggy I thought we’d just skip the gifts this year seein’ as we’re savin’ for that deluxe tortilla maker with matchin’ cactus margarita glasses at WalMart.” But practical, nonetheless.

I’m not sure what was in the water Saturday, although it may have something to do with the fact that for the first time in three years we don’t have double daycare fees, but I took the girls with me to buy the hubby a gift card for a much needed one-hour massage. I was also very excited about going out to dinner with him to a cozy Italian restaurant while the girls went to a kids’ night out at my neighbor’s church. I wasn’t expecting anything else so imagine my surprise when the hubby came home with this handsome fellow, whom I have emasculated by forcing to wear hot pink and black:

Hello lover…(!!!!!!!!!!!)

The girls were won over by my new boyfriend, uh phone, when I played Miley Cyrus’s 7 Things About You videoΒ for them. I was won over as soon as I saw the box. (“I will hug him and squeeze him and love him…”) kind of like the Abominable Snowman when he fell in love with Daffy Duck. (Am I dating myself here by quoting Looney Tunes from the 1960s?)

Now I am not a phone person. I don’t text, although I know that day is coming with two chatty girls, but my old flip phone had a broken screen. I could still make and take calls on it but I might as well have had it taped together with a Dora band aid.

So tell me iPhone lovers, what apps do you have?

I found this great Gizmodo article which lists several must have apps and I’ve already installed Pandora. Shannan, my blog friend in Cincinnati who blogs at Mommy Bits, has posted about her new Valentine’s iPhone and lists several great apps for moms and kids. Because we’re all about the estrogen at BlondeMomBlog, I also found a helpful Totally Her post listing the top 10 iPhone apps for girls and a post at The Frisky with apps geared toward women (I’m just pumped to know there is a Ms. Pacman app.)

First – This may be one of the best blog post titles EVAH! It made me lol. We def. have the best husbands on the planet. I am not 100% if he knew what he was getting into – I was pretty focused on the phone – and not him – all weekend… opps, lol.

I absolutely love my iPhone! It’s amazing because my husband is a total tech hater. But when he saw the iPhone, he fell in love with it. Now, he is more obsessed with it than I am, and I’m the techy one in the family! πŸ™‚

I think my favorite application that I’ve found so far is “Shazam”. It is a program that you can hold up your phone to the radio, tv, another ipod, whatever it may be. After 15 seconds it will tell you what song it is. 99% of the time, it’s right! Amazing! πŸ™‚

But anyways, congrats on the new phone. You won’t ever want to go back to another phone, trust me! lol

Thanks ya’ll…I’ve officially gone to the iPhone side.

I put Whack’emAll (like Whac a Mole) and Tic Tac Touch (tic tac toe) on it for the girls but then my husband reminded me that I might not want to encourage them to play with it too much. I also put a Hannah Montana station on Pandora for them, which came in handy this morning when I couldn’t get them moving and dressed for school!

I have scribble for the kiddos. Pandora and facebook are my most used, as well as weather. I use the alarm every morning.
I use shop shop for groceries, though I am looking into “grocery Gadget” that was mentioned on one of the sites that you linked. I use tweetie for twitter (you can have multiple twitter accounts). I have the wordpress app but it keeps breaking. Games: Wurdle, bejeweled, removem. I also use Save Benji’s but am not 100% pleased with it finding what I need. When I see articles about apps, I tend to jot them down and check them out later. Also, we should exchange cell numbers since we can talk for free now. πŸ™‚

I am locked into a t-mobile plan and t-mobile is trying to stand between me and my one true love…the IPhone. Truly a tragedy of Shakespearean proportions. *weeps*

Anissa@hope4peytons last blog post..Anatomy of a nervous breakdown

I don’t have an iPhone but I do have an iTouch, and I am totally addicted to Tangram Puzzle Pro.

    Totally addicted.

Also, I am rather partial to my Twitter ap – I tried a few but the one I’m using now…TwitterFon, I think, is the best I’ve tried yet.

  7. Flossip says:

For better battery life, turn off “location services” in settings. I only use that GPS function when I am in my car and have the car charger, unless I really need it. It is a battery SUCK.

Flossips last blog post..Would this be rude?

That phone is so SWEET! I’m a blackberry gal; I debated for all of 2 minutes between the two — I wanted a keyboard. However, I still get a little bit o’ iPhone envy when I hear of people getting them. πŸ™‚

  9. Mrs. Flinger says:

You know what this means don’t you? We can now call each other FOR FREE.

Did your phone number change? Email me and we’ll connect. πŸ˜€ WOOOOT!

  10. Nancy says:

I always say that my iPhone is the first time that I haven’t regretted spending too much on a cell phone. I LOVE my iPhone and have had it for a year now. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I hope you enjoy yours too! Congrats!

  11. Flug USA says:

Hey, congrats on your new iphone! Check out this site: it gives a rating of a lot of the apps. I guess by now there are so many that it’s really hard to choose and find the “right” ones.
I still don’t have an iphone myself, I’m not really into touch screens. But I might have to think about it, it really does sound great…
