White Girls Can Dance…Sort Of

When I saw the sign announcing a free hip hop dance class for moms at Miss C’s dance studio I thought one thing, “free exercise.” I also thought “buns of jello” and “uncoordinated,” but I quickly pushed those from my mind. After a year of not belonging to a gym, we just rejoined the Y (the girls absolutely love going to the indoor pool) and I figure between that and me bustin’ a move at this hip hop class that I can get some much needed exercise. Woman cannot live on Merlot and Cheetos alone, unless you’re Britney Spears and have a personal trainer at your beck and call.

I was pleasantly surprised, and a little fearful, that about half of the class was spent doing crunches, push ups, and strengthening our core. The instructor has a two-month old baby and admitted she’s using us as her fitness guinea pigs so she can get back in shape. Considering my “baby” is nearly 4 and two c-sections have not really helped my abs, I’m all for it.

We did some basic dance moves. I’ll never be a Rockette or a backup dancer for Beyonce, but it was a lot of fun. Plus the girls think mama is cool for taking a dance class.

On a totally random note, does anyone remember Zubaz pants from the early 90s? Apparently they are back. It’s Hammer time ya’ll.

I need to join a gym, or something like that. Now that I’m working outside the home five days a week, almost every week, my diet and exercise have gone down the drain. I love swimming laps, and I used to go to the (free because of my job) pool every day, but now it is not open during the times I am not working… well, unless I start exercising at 5am every day, which I don’t see happening anytime soon.

Ahhh- to be a Beyonce’ back up dancer though… that would be cool huh?? 🙂

Love it! Now you can chaperone their dances & they won’t be as embarrassed, right 😉 I want to try Zumba after I have the baby….I’ve heard it’s a lot of fun!

It’s amazing what dancing can do for you. It’s another example that working out or exercising doesn’t need to be a chore.
