My Mama, Classic Overachiever

I’ve been out almost all week with my mom who had emergency gallbladder surgery yesterday afternoon. I’ve either been with her at the doctor’s office or at the hospital since early Tuesday. The surgeon told us it was the most infected gallbladder he’d ever seen, and he assured us he’d known quite a few. Even in illness my mom goes above and beyond the call of duty!

The scariest thing was my mom thought she was having a heart attack late Monday because the pain was going up into her chest and arms and into her upper back. Her potassium was dangerously low and she was dehydrated. Oh, and the ER? They sent her back home early Tuesday once they determined her heart was OK. That’s a whole other story. I took her to her doctor Tuesday morning and then they suspected it was her gallbladder and ran more tests. So out it came and now here we are at her house. Thankfully the surgery went well.

As if I didn’t have enough fun going on this week, last night a photographer from the local newspaper came to my house and I’ll tell you more about that later because I’m sure if I say anything now then the story will get canned. Miss A was looking over my shoulder most of the time while we sat at the breakfast bar intently looking at my laptop. In reality I was bribing her to sit still for a few seconds by showing her cute photos of dogs on the Animal Planet website. At one point while the photographer was shooting I looked up and Miss C was doing a stealth move up on to the kitchen counter trying to sneak a snack after I’d forbid her to have any more. So if the photo gets published you’ll know the true story of what clandestine activity was going on in my kitchen while I pretended to do some serious mommy blogging.

So sorry to hear about your mom and all the worries. Isn’t it hard when you start to have to take care of your parents AND your kids?! How did we end up getting in the middle of the sandwich?!! Hang in there, at least they figured out what was wrong. Hugs!

The same thing happened when my father had an unexplainable fever. The hospital sent him home twice saying that it was just a virus because they said if it was his gallballer he would have “hurt more”.

No, wait. Totally believable. My grandpa is a heart patient, and he was having a heart attack so he went to the ER. They sent him to his doctor, who furiously wheeled him right back to the ER personally to rant at the idiots who sent him away!

I used to be a television reporter and anchor, and got to film a live gallbladder surgery. It was fascinating.

I just posted on your mom’s blog. She has been through the toughest part, I know because Hubby went in a Saturday and they didn’t operate till Tuesday night. I thought he was going to gnaw through the bed. Today she will be able to eat something! It will not be what she wants, but it is great to feel human again and with a different pain!

    Praying for your family!

Wow, what a scare with your mom. I’m glad she’s doing better.

It would have taken more bribes than that to get my kids to sit and the computer with me. Usually they are trying to block my screen so I’ll get off of it. Which is actually pretty sad. Can’t wait to read about this article.
