Water Baby

Guess who swam underwater at the pool this weekend without the aid of floaties?

I’m really proud of Miss C. When we were in Florida just last month she hesitated to even jump in the pool with her floaties on and insisted that the hubby or I stay close by constantly.

I’d love to say she inherited her swimming ability from me, but I’m not a very good swimmer. The hubby, however, used to lifeguard at our little hometown country club pool in the late 80s.

And now, some great moments in Miss C’s road to floaty freedom.

Summer 2003

Miss C navigating the chlorinated waters in her posh, super deluxe, pimped out baby float, the S.S. Sippycup, with daddy ‘s help.

Summer 2007

Miss C taking swimming lessons at the YMCA while mommy tries to observe casually from the sidelines and take a few photos without crossing the line and becoming one of those obnoxious overzealous scrapbooking mothers.

Speaking of scrapbooking (I occasionally sit down and work on digital scrapbook pages for the girls), guess who didn’t have a camera to record yesterday’s momentous occasion?

Yay! That’s awesome..Now I wished that Kayla would swim underwater. She is scared just to go under and she’s 9 and we have a pool that we are out in daily. I just don’t get it!

That is wonderful, what an accomplishment. I just hope we can get Harper interested.

We had Harper’s 2nd birthday this weekend and set up a plethora of baby pools and he wouldn

A HUGE motivating factor in all this was the fact that she made a buddy at the pool and the little girl could literally swim, sans floaties, like a fish. She was 5 1/2 and she and Miss C hit it off like two little mermaids. Usually Miss C is really cautious, but this helped give her the motivation to let go of her fears.

Since my little one has had tubes in his ears until recently we are still in the early stages. But he did pass level one with 100% and starts level 2 in 2 weeks. Congrats on the big step!

I just got a Flip Mino video camera and I was able to capture my daughter going off the diving board for the first time. I LOVE this camera. It’s so tiny, I had it in my pants’ pocket.

    Way to go girl!

Yay for Miss C!!! I know I was at least seven or eight before I managed to put my head underwater. I had tubes in my ears when I was a toddler (for chronic ear infections) and wasn’t allowed to get water in my ears for at least a year. So I was PETRIFIED of the water and it was a huge ordeal when I put my head underwater.

But of course, now I’m practically a fish. Once I got over that fear, I fell in love with swimming!

This literally makes me feel sick to my stomach. I have a GREAT sense of humor but why you would want to make your baby look like that is beyond me. not even in jest would i do such a thing.

Awesome – congratulations to Miss C! I’m hoping that my older girls get to that point this year with swimming lessons. Abby’s pretty close, but Hannah’s always been very unsure in the water. Which is the reason for the lessons to begin with, I guess. 🙂

Hooray for Miss C! I know it is a huge relief when they learn to swim. We had Kaylea take swimming lessons when she was 6 because we had been unsuccessful in teaching her on our own. Boy, they really paid off. Congrats to the whole family!
