She Gets Knocked Down, But She Gets Up Again

Don’t let the lemon chiffon dainty color or the pink accented cleats fool you, the girl is tough.
Our fall league soccer season started on Saturday and the sunny and unusually cool August weather was ideal and for a few hours I wondered if we were really in Middle Tennessee it was so nice out. The big news was Miss C scored the first goal for her team! We may or may not have been yelling excitedly from the sidelines.
Something has really “clicked” with Miss C on the field in the past year. There was a time she was getting frustrated and she was overthinking her moves on the field but now she doesn’t hesitate at the goal and she also enjoys playing as part of the team. I’m not sure where the overthinking gene comes from, but I can assure you it’s not from me. Ahem. If she gets knocked down, she gets right back up. She’s been playing with the same small core group of girls since she was 4 and it’s been fun to watch them grow up together as a team.
Later that night we were talking at bedtime and I told her how proud I was of how she’d played that day. We’ve never pushed “winning” but we’ve always told her to have fun when she plays.
She looked at me and said, “Mommy, do you know how I made that goal? I just had fun and did it!”
Have you ever had a moment where you watch your child “get it” on the playing field? I never played sports as a kid so this is all new to me…but it’s pretty darn cool.
