Saturday Links (Save for a Snowy Day Edition)

Filed under: Saturday Links — Blonde Mom at 6:51 am on Monday, December 17, 2007

This is the post that was deleted over the weekend due to technical glitches. I haven’t posted Saturday Links since October and I collect them as I find them so I’m about to post a veritable linkapalooza!

I am sure you are not still working through your Christmas list like me, but just in case, here are some ideas.

Belinda at Ninja Poodles (one of my all time favorite blog names) has a wonderful post chock full of gift ideas. Just a few Southernesque words to entice you: RCs and moon pies.

Debunot posted a great gift idea list, with a touch of monogramming and Tiffany’s.

I wrote an article about gift ideas for little princesses, minus the usual cast of characters, at DivineCaroline.

Make a snowflake! (Hat tip, Rocks in My Dryer.)

Get in the Car! has a Philanthropic Thursdays series where I read about the horrible accident that blogger Bossy’s 11-year-old daughter was involved in last week. Go send Bossy and her family your blessings and prayers. Her daughter was bitten on the face by a neighbor’s dog.

Jess at Oh, the Joys wrote about the Hands on New Orleans Amazon wish list for a school rebuilding its library after Hurricane Katrina. This is a great way to be charitable while you’re already online doing some last minute shopping, like I was yesterday. (Please God let the three things I ordered for the girls, including the much wished for Barbie Island Princess DVD, arrive this week!)

Sugar Cookie Pops recipe from Southern Living. (Hat tip, Manic Mommies.)

Jam thumbprint cookies from Loralee’s Looneytunes.

Mama’s dreaming of a candy cane martini Christmas.

Skip to My Lou has photos from a wonderful Santa breakfast she hosts for her son’s basketball team (check out the cute snowman powdered donuts.) The first photo looks like a modern day Norman Rockwell painting.

Check out the Kohl’s Cares for Kids charitable giving program. The hubby’s aunt gave Miss C and Miss A adorable Dr. Seuss theme stuffed toys last Christmas. Frankly, everyone needs a stuffed Sneetch.

I love this Mom is Santa video. (Hat tip, White Trash Mom.) Apparently Mrs. Claus still likes to get it on with Mr. Claus!

Working Moms Against guilt is having a guilt free giveaway week so be sure to visit them and enter to win fabulous prizes (waves hand in a Vanna-esque motion.)

And last, a sweet video about two little girls in Kentucky getting a special Christmas surprise. If your heart doesn’t melt while watching this, well then you need to work on thawing that sucker out.

Happy surfing!

This is the flavor of the month at our house. I caught Miss C licking the outside of the container.

For a great laugh check out Fabulous Mommy Fussypants’ Fight the Frump Photo Smackdown. Do not skip the video at the end. Her Fight the Frump series may start a mom jean burning revolution!

On the opposite end of the spectrum is the I Dress Like a Slob Flickr Photo Pool I saw on Secret Agent Josephine (if you ever need a dose of happy, just visit her blog.)

I love digital scrapbooking but my blogging habit addiction has taken time away from that hobby. I usually do more in the winter when I have more time to go through our digital photos and organize them (i.e. actually print some and stick them in photo albums). Here’s a really cute and free downloadable back to school digital kit from Two Peas in a Bucket.

I am thinking of making our holiday photo cards this year. There are a lot of great kits online, such as this one from Shabby Miss Jenn.

Through Shabby Miss Jenn I found a shabby chic blog and I really enjoyed looking at the before and after pictures of her house (love the harlequin paint theme in the dining room.)

Even though I love photography and digital scrapbooking, my crafty gene is just not a dominant one. Looking over a Michael’s ad can make me hyperventilate. However, I keep finding creative blogs and hoping that I can be creative vicariously through them. Skip to My Lou has photos of the most awesome Halloween party decorating.

Have a great weekend! We’re off to trunk or treat with the cousins tonight!

Boo-ya! I am in the Halloween spirit so I am posting a few Halloween links. Join me as I revert to a kid for a few minutes.

These cute Halloween pops via Skip to My Lou look like something I could actually make.

We’re bringing snacks to Miss C’s soccer game on the 27th, so I am thinking I might bring something befitting the season. Right now it’s a toss up between these Halloween Rice Krispie Treats that look like little pumpkins (they look easy to make) or this fun spooky gloved munch mix. Kraft Foods has a ton of great Halloween recipes on their website.

These shortbread witches fingers’ cookies are really freaky. I guess they can’t be any worse than reaching in a bowl blindfolded and handling eyeballs (grapes) or brains (jello.) Does anyone remember those tricks from childhood?

Here are some fun downloadable pumpkin carving stencils via How About Orange?

Whack a Ghoul anyone?

We’ve been reading Georgie’s Halloween, a wonderful children’s book from the 1950s my mom found a few years ago at a little shop in my hometown, nearly every night and we’ve already watched our Charlie Brown’s The Great Pumpkin DVD. I decorated for Halloween early this week and one of my favorite decorations is a little scarecrow that my mom would get out every fall when I was a child. Miss A will be consuming too much sugar and enjoying painting a pumpkin at the annual fall festival at daycare next week and Miss C’s class is headed to the pumpkin patch on the 30th.

So, what are your family Halloween or fall traditions?

Did you know Company Store has an online sale of the day (with Friday’s being extra special)? Miss C’s very cute bedroom rug is from Company Store Kids.

I didn’t realize that the wonderful charity Soles for Souls is based in Nashville.

Check out the online games at Divine Caroline. I like Up & Down Words.

I heart this t-shirt that I found on a very cute website, The Pink Monogram. I’m a total sucker for the preppy look and I think Miss C looks adorable in her favorite school dress code outfit: khaki skort or shorts and a GAP pink polo (with a headband, of course.)

Please remember blogger Heather at Especially Heather in your thoughts and prayers as she continues her battle against brain cancer.

Tonight is date night with the hubby. Woo hoo! Mama’s gonna have a drink or three, maybe by the water if we check out this restaurant, which was the location of a former favorite. Have a great weekend!

SlackerMommy has an awesome post and about debratting your kids and how the fine line between being your child’s parent and friend has become blurred. Hence, 13-year-olds have a busier social calendar than their parents, no kids hold steady part-time jobs any more, and parents are forking over $300 for Hannah Montana tickets and afternoon mani/pedi treatments for girls who don’t even have their driver’s licenses. The hubby and I have already talked about how we want our girls to help pay for their own vehicles some day. Let’s hope we stick to our parenting guns! We both worked when we were teenagers (I blogged about my humbling fast food experience at Wendy’s where I was a hot mess in polyster navy blue pants.) The hubby bagged groceries at Piggly Wiggly, delivered Domino’s pizza, and was the cute lifeguard at our small town country club.

A hilarious sibling rivalry video. (Hat Tip, Love Shak, Baby.)

This iced chai recipe on How about orange… sounds delicious.

I didn’t realize Talbots has an online kids’ outlet. (Hat tip: Like Merchant Ships)

I posted over at the Colorado Grand Junction this week about two studies that looked at the negative effects of TV and so-called educational DVDs for babies. I also admit that Dora is practically family as she babysits the girls almost every weekday morning. Muchas gracias Dora!

White Trash Mom has an awesome Not Ready for Mom Jeans list on This Next. I so need this Mother on the Edge t-shirt. My wardrobe has morphed into a sea of indistinguishable khaki and dear Lord I actually wore soccer earrings to Miss C’s game this morning. But we won the game, so I consider them my lucky soccer mom earrings now.

And to think, I’d forgotten all about Rick Astley.

Two out of four members of the Blonde Mom Blog household have colds, not including me, so I’m bathing in hand sanitizer and downing Gatorade.

Have a great weekend!

Real Simple sent me a their special family issue which made my day a little brighter seeing as I’m a magazine junkie and have been a fan of their publication for a while. Their Back-to-School 101 Guide is full of great ideas.

I was out birthday shopping for my best friend last week and spotted an entire display of Vera Bradley stationery and office supplies. I cannot resist elegant and special paper products, which is a love I inherited from my mother. This cute paperback cover on sale at VeraBradley.com would be a fun gift and make your paperback choice more mysterious (and stylish.)

If you’re in the market for a new mama mobile, one that is resilient to a 2-year-old kicking it in the back of its seats and being pelted with Cheerios, you must check out Mother Proof. I was surfing for information on the Chrysler Pacifica and found Mother Proof, which is a fun car review site written (and well-written I might add) by moms for moms.

Do you have sad, broken crayons at your house? Recycle them into chubby crayons! I mentioned this yesterday, but we made these bad boys and they are a big hit.

Design Mom has the most amazing giveaways I want to keep them to myself. Check out this Twisted Silver beautiful jewelry giveaway. (Time’s up tomorrow night!)

And last, some shameless self promotion. Don’t forget about the 25% Thermaclear discount good through Sept. 3 if you use the super secret code BLONDEMOM when purchasing their acne treatment system. And there is always a 10 percent discount if you register with Sitter City through my blog (scroll down to see the spiffy ad at the bottom of my blog page.)

Visit me at the Colorado Grand Junction Haute Mamas where I praise the infinite wisdom of BTDT Mamas.

Have a great weekend!

p.s. If there are any car dealers who want a real soccer mom to test drive their luxury SUVs, uh…you know how to contact me (points over to the right.) The girls and I would look awesome cruising around in a Lincoln Navigator. (Pssst…Miss C wants mama to drive a blue car.)
