Thankful

I’m taking a break from blogging here for a few days but first I thought I’d share a couple of great posts from earlier this week. If you’ve ever rescued a dog or even loved a dog, I’ve shared the story about our Jack. We’ve had him 10 years now and he’s an integral part of our family, not to mention he’s so handsome he’s like the Robert Redford of canines. I’ve also shared my woe is me SI joint story, although I am incredibly thankful that I walked 3 miles yesterday and I am not hurting this morning! You take your health for granted until is compromised, even in a very small way.

I have a lot to be thankful for this year. I have two incredibly bright and beautiful girls and an amazingly supportive husband. I’m thankful for my wonderful family and friends. Like any blogger, I live for comments and I wouldn’t be blogging without readers. So I am thankful for you. I’m also thankful for all the amazing opportunities I have had this year because of my blog. It has truly been an amazing year and I’m humbled and incredibly appreciative of that. I’ve had some “pinch me am I dreaming” moments this year and because of my blog I’ve had the opportunity to travel several times, which is something I love and don’t take for granted.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I hope each and everyone of you have a wonderful day filled with love, laughter, and lots of amazing food.

p.s. I’ll have some great giveaways at my review blog, Savvy Housewife, this weekend, including one of the hottest toys of the season so be sure to check it out!

Channeling My Inner Stuart Smalley

Today I join several other blog mamas to girls over at Momma Made It Look Easy for a post about the importance of instilling confidence in our daughters.

Today I am also 41.

Am I always confident? Heck no. I have many down days. Days when I doubt myself…days when I don’t like myself. I jokingly call them bad hair days.

I feel like I have grown a lot in the past year and even though I am no longer a young girl, I still work on my confidence daily. I have the same insecurities and self-doubt as everyone else. I have the same worries and the same self-conscious mirror that I use to judge myself.

I am a work in progress. I try to no longer please everyone, to be the nice girl who cannot say no or who worries too much about what other people think…I am learning to be my own best champion. I am blessed with an amazing family and supportive husband and good friends. I am a lucky woman.

If I had a bit of wisdom to share with you today, it would be to dream big, love large, laugh loudly, say yes, say no, and believe in yourself.

As Stuart Smalley says, “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it…people like me.”

Mrs. Indiana And Mrs. Tennessee Hit The Big Apple

Today I’m meeting up with this fabulous friend in New York City!

If you aren’t familiar with her website, Mom Advice, Amy Allen Clark is a one woman frugal fashionista creative petite mojo of a woman and she has an incredible career, working with brands such as Kenmore, Kellogg, and Walmart. Heck, she has even been featured in Redbook magazine for her credit card slashing. She and I first met in 2007  in San Francisco for a Real Girls Media trip and we hit it off instantly. We hung out together all weekend. Although I don’t see her very often (the last time was at the Blissdom conference here in Nashville) we always have a blast!

When we’re not gallivanting in the Big Apple, we’ll be doing moms gone wild things like reading gossip magazines and eating Moon Pies in our hotel room. Just like Sex and the City, with less Spanx, Botox, and Manolo Blahniks!

I didn’t have any intentions of attending BlogHer in New York City this year. I couldn’t justify the expense of airfare, conference fees, and hotel accommodations, especially in the year of the Great Flood and its trickle down effects on my husband’s business. We have not gone on a family vacation this summer and my husband’s car died this spring so a nearly $1,000 trip for a blog conference seemed fun, but frivolous. When Amy asked me to be her guest at the beautiful Royalton Hotel, just minutes away from Times Square, courtesy of Unilever, I couldn’t turn her down! My 41st birthday is also next week so this was truly a girls’ weekend to celebrate my last few days of being 40! I haven’t been to New York since I was pregnant with Miss C and it was for a quick fly in, fly out business trip. This trip will be ALL FUN!

Tonight I will be attending a fantastic bloggers’ night out on the roof of Martha Stewart Omnimedia! I considered painting my toenails Martha Stewart signature blue, but decided that might be going a tad overboard. Unilever is hosting events Friday and Saturday evening, with a breakfast Saturday morning as well. I’ll also be having breakfast with several of my fellow Sprout Band of Bloggers.

The last time Amy and I hung out we got our picture made with Harry Connick Jr. so I’m pretty excited about the next four days and all the possibilities.

Thank you my rock star blog friend for asking me to join you this weekend!
