Fashion Friday: 7 Work Wardrobe Essentials

Spring Work Wardrobe Essentials

I’ve been a working mom since 2002 and I’ve worked in a variety of settings, from corporate America where jeans were frowned upon to an agency environment today where jeans are a staple. One thing is certain when it comes to a working wardrobe, though. It’s wise to invest in a few classic pieces that will last for years.

Here are 7 must have working wardrobe items (in my book) that are worth investing in:

Little Black Dress A classic LBD will remain a go to for years. I bought a Calvin Klein black sheath dress at Marshalls a couple of years ago and it will no doubt still be in style for several more years. Plus you can dress it up down depending on your shoes and accessories. The LBD pictured above is on sale at Kohl’s for just $66 and I love the peplum waistline.

Tailored Pantsuit I’m no longer in the corporate world, but a nice tailored pantsuit is always a great investment and comfortable for business travel.

Statement Tops  A fun sleeveless shell in a bold print or color is very versatile as it can be worn with a pencil skirt, trousers, or even dressier jeans and heels. You can also feature some trends, such as this Calvin Klein blouse with piping pictured above.

Wedges/Pumps I am not a big fan of heels despite being a shorty, but I do love me some wedges. When I was job hunting a couple of summers ago I invested in a great pair of peep toe wedge heels by Calvin Klein. I don’t see them going out of style any time soon!

Quality Bag If you have to subscribe to more buttoned up wear, then at least have fun with your handbag! I love these colorful timeless bags. Zulily also has Kate Spade bags on sale this weekend! If you have the budget for a Kate Spade bag, do check it out.

Black Trousers Nice slimming black pants will carry you through conferences and cocktail parties. Here’s a more budget friendly version from Kohl’s and a more pricey pair from Ann Taylor. I have a pair I bought several years ago at Kohl’s that I always take on business trips.

Classic Blazer A nice classic blazer is always a good investment (along with a nice cardigan). I love this striped blazer pictured above on sale at JC Penney.

Some other must haves would include a statement scarf, quality stud earrings (pearls or diamonds/CZs), and a nice computer bag or briefcase.
