(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Friendship and Futbol

I wanted to share a few pictures from our visit with boys at a juvenile detention center on the afternoon of our third full day here in Kenya.

The facility serves boys ranging in age from 8 to about 14 from various parts of the country. Some are court system referrals and have committed petty crime, but some have been sent to the facility by their parents because they cannot discipline them. After 3 months they are evaluated and they are either released and sent home or they go to jail.

My friend and Every Girl Counts founder Rene Cook and Haggai, Swahiba Youth Networks staff member.

Our friends at Swahiba Youth Networks hold a program with them every Thursday. They play games, have small group discussions, and play futbol. These boys love to play soccer and I loved sharing with them about Miss C’s travel team here in the United States. We talked about friendship and issues like peer pressure and making the right decisions the day we visited.

I hope that we were able to encourage these sweet young men.

Have you seen Sh%t Southern Women Say on youtube? I think you’d get a good laugh

  2. This response is really not about your lovely trip. I am so jealous that I could spit. You are seeing the real country and the real people which is the best way to travel. I just wanted to put a bee in your bonnet. It is time for some in your family to plan a nice beach trip, early summer or better yet, late fall for mom. OK??
