And Now We Know She’s Not Claustrophic

We’re in the dog days of summer and the hubby was looking for something different, not to mention cooler, to do on Daddy Summer Thursday with Miss C.

They’ve done bowling and swimming and well, it was time to get creative. We were bouncing ideas off each other a few days ago when he mentioned Mammoth Cave, which I have since learned is the longest known cave in the world, just a short drive into Kentucky. I haven’t been to Mammoth Cave since elementary school, but I knew she would love it.

They hit I-65 and headed north for about an hour and a half to Mammoth Cave National Park. For $20 they took the 2-hour New Entrance Tour. Miss C was apparently quite enthralled with the notion of road tripping somewhere exotic like the Bluegrass State. The hubby called me at work en route to the park and said Miss C had asked in all seriousness if they spoke English in Kentucky. I could joke about this, but it should be noted that I went to college in Kentucky and I’ve been known to say “fixin’ to,” walk barefoot in the yard, and drink wine from a box so who am I to judge?

This weekend the U.S. National Park Service is offering it’s second in a series of three free admission weekends this summer. It’s a great way to explore the amazing wonders in your own back yard, or in Miss C and the hubby’s case, the world beneath us.
