I'm a 41-year-old mom to two girls ages 8 and 5 desperately seeking sanity. I'm an editor and social media coordinator in business publishing. My husband, a former beach bartender, founded MouseCalls Computer Services here in Nashville. We have two mutts, three crabs, two frogs, and too much laundry. Estrogen and wine flow freely here, so kick off your shoes and come on in!

Because we’ve lost our childhood sense of imagination and wonder? I need a box full of sand so I can pretend I’m at the beach!
Favorite picture of my baby girl. Grandma is saving all her big boxes for her visit.
My parents still wonder why they bothered. Honestly, I swear I must have spent half of my childhood in a cardboard box lol.
...to get the boxes they’re shipped in, of course.
At least the boxes are cheaper than toys!
So true! My boys have had a lot of fun with boxes over the years. My 9 year old proudly sleeps on his self made shanty, though he really does have a proper bed.
Isn’t that the truth. We have my daughter on video playing in a large box when she was about 2. It occupied her for hours. : )
To make up for your working mother guilt.
I mean, that’s why I buy toys. To make up for MY working mother guilt.
Always the way.
It’s part of the wonder though and one of the greatest reverse teaching moments for us as parents me thinks…:)
Hugs,
Holly
No idea actually – clearly nothing beats a big, ole box!
LOVE it
!
Seriously…..and bubble wrap!
I used to love spending time playing pretend houses using prams and dolls and making cubbyholes out of lounge chairs and blankets.. This brings back good memories, and so I can understand her excitement-
Also, I had more fun doing these simple things than any fancy toys could provide. Unfortunately I do think that it’s the seeing other kids with expensive toys which makes the rest say “I want what they’ve got!”
What are these toys you speak of? I just toss the kids in the backyard with a cardboard tube and the hose and some chalk
snort
boxes rock and that pic is precious
Seeing this picture remind me of the time I was a little. I used to play with boxes and pretended those boxes are my house and my car. hehe
Good point. Our 2-year-old will play with anything…boxes, toilet paper rolls, sheets and pillows, etc. She has an active imagination and I wouldn’t want to “steal” away her creativity by filling up her room with plastic toys.
[...] Remind Me Again Why We Buy Toys — Blonde Mom Blog. I had to laugh at this. I posted something similar a few weeks ago. It never ceases to amaze me how long a child can entertain him/herself with a cardboard box. [...]
Why, because children love to play with them and also I should say, spoil them. Sometimes we love them too. I spend so much time looking at the dolls, whenever I go to the toy shop with my daughter.
To provide another stimulus for our baby….......
OMG I just saw this post now as it was below your ‘nose sick’ one. I have a similar pic that I posted a few weeks ago of my daughter! Its nice to know I am not the only one w/ a child who prefers the boxes over her new toys. LOL
