I'm just another working mom seeking a few moments of Zen and zinfandel between soccer practice and supper. My former beach bartender husband founded 
I made it through day one of first grade without shedding a tear, but the next two days were a struggle. Now I know why so many moms wear sunglasses in the building.
I’ve been parking across the street from school and walking Miss C in all week. After I help her with her backpack and lunch box, I try not to linger. There’s a song that they start the day with, before the pledge of allegiance, before the school pledge, and as soon as I heard the opening strains over the intercom system, the tears began to well up in my eyes. Not just any tears, either. These are big fat mama’s mascara is streaking down her face tears. I walked out as fast as I could Tuesday and Wednesday to keep from bawling.

How well I remember the first day I took my son to school. That was 52 years ago and I spent the rest of the day crying. Ten years later when I took my daughter to her first day of school I skipped home singing “Free at last.”
Julia wants to ride the bus to school this year, and that thought is just FINISHING ME. I was fine when she went off to JK, full days, but thinking of her on that bus reduces me to tears EVERY TIME.
See? I’m crying now. sigh

OMG they play THAT?? Are they TRYING to get parents to run from the building sobbing?? Cause if so, good choice.

Oh, boy, this got me all choked up. My daughter starts 1st grade next week and it’s hard to imagine not having her with me most of the time. I think my husband will have to take her the first day so I don’t make a scene in the parking lot. -Julia

Thanks a lot. It is the weekend and you’ve got me all teary-eyed over school! Night started Kindergarten last week, and I wasn’t able to take him. His dad did, which was fine, but I WANTED TO BE THERE! AND, he lost his first tooth when I was away too—so many changes! I can’t handle it!
