Someone with the Fresh Air Fund organization contacted me via e-mail to help spread the word about their summer program.
The Fresh Air Fund has provided free summer vacations to New York City children from disadvantaged communities since 1877 (yes, that’s right…1877).
There are 200 children who need to be placed with host families in August by the end of July. Unless all prospective host families are screened and vetted by the end of July, these 200 children may miss out on an invaluable experience
If you can host a child, e-mail Angie at angie {at} freshair(.)org and she’ll speed you through the process. She can also be reached at 1-800-367-0003 (212.897.8900).
The Fresh Air Fund is especially in need of families who want to extend an invitation to a 9 to 12-year-old.
As someone who probably takes the great outdoors for granted, I can’t imagine denying a child the opportunity to enjoy summer outside the city.

Worthwhile cause! While living in New England I was exposed to their efforts and I saw a lot of kids having a great time that they wouldn’t have otherwise experience. I think it was just as rewarding for the host families as well.
They need people to contact them directly to volunteer, it is too costly to proactively reach out to people directly. Give Angie a call, you won’t regret it.
