Last year wasn’t a banner dental care year for me, so I was intrigued when approached with the chance to review the new Ultreo ultrasound toothbrush, which takes dental care to a whole new level.
Ultreo is the first major innovative development in toothbrushes in more than a decade. It is the only power toothbrush to combine ultrasound waveguide technology with precisely tuned sonic bristle action. Developed at the University of Washington, it’s basically the bad ass of toothbrushes.
Ultreo features:
- an auto shut off timer
- a brushing interval signal that beeps every 3 seconds to help you clean each area of your mouth equally
- a compact charger base and wall plug
- a battery charge status indicator that tells the level of battery power (when fully charged you can use Ultreo for up to 28 brushings without additional charging)
- the ability to remove up to 95% of plaque from hard-to-reach places in one minute. It is also clinically proven to be safe and gentle for everyday use on gums, natural tooth surfaces, and dental work
Ultreo retails for $169.99 and can be purchased from participating dental offices, Ultreo’s website, and online retailers such as Drugstore.com, Amazon.com, and The Sharper Image. Additional brush heads can be purchased so that more than one person can share the toothbrush base.
This is not a product I would normally go out and buy for myself, but the Ultreo is definitely an investment in dental care. My teeth felt considerably cleaner after brushing with the Ultreo, and I’d compare it to that “just professionally cleaned” type feeling you get after an appointment with your dental hygenist.

WOW. SOme toothbrush. I use dollar store variety. No bells and whistles, barely any brushes.
My teeth would be so happy to have a new fancy tooth brush to make them sparkle.
Right now the poor things get scrubed clean with a Colgate tooth brush. Not that Colgate brush is bad, it’s done it’s job well, I just think my teeth would be so happy to have a brand spankin new Ultreo brush.

This is one heck of a toothbrush. I have problems with my gums and this would hopefully wipe those problems away.

I am using a Colgate toothbrush but I generally use what ever is in my stock pile. A few years ago, I bought a ton of toothpaste and brushes on sale.

Colgate or Oral-B. Whatever I can find that has a compact head.
I usually use Oral B manual toothbrushes but my dentist just told me to go to a battery powered toothbrush because it will prevent me from brushing too hard and I already have a lot of recession.
I use a sad old manual $1 Colgate brush. Blah. I need a pick me up kind up kind of toothbrush that will be kind to my gums.
