Saturday Links (Save for a Snowy Day Edition)

Filed under: Saturday Links — Blonde Mom at 6:51 am on Monday, December 17, 2007

This is the post that was deleted over the weekend due to technical glitches. I haven’t posted Saturday Links since October and I collect them as I find them so I’m about to post a veritable linkapalooza!

I am sure you are not still working through your Christmas list like me, but just in case, here are some ideas.

Belinda at Ninja Poodles (one of my all time favorite blog names) has a wonderful post chock full of gift ideas. Just a few Southernesque words to entice you: RCs and moon pies.

Debunot posted a great gift idea list, with a touch of monogramming and Tiffany’s.

I wrote an article about gift ideas for little princesses, minus the usual cast of characters, at DivineCaroline.

Make a snowflake! (Hat tip, Rocks in My Dryer.)

Get in the Car! has a Philanthropic Thursdays series where I read about the horrible accident that blogger Bossy’s 11-year-old daughter was involved in last week. Go send Bossy and her family your blessings and prayers. Her daughter was bitten on the face by a neighbor’s dog.

Jess at Oh, the Joys wrote about the Hands on New Orleans Amazon wish list for a school rebuilding its library after Hurricane Katrina. This is a great way to be charitable while you’re already online doing some last minute shopping, like I was yesterday. (Please God let the three things I ordered for the girls, including the much wished for Barbie Island Princess DVD, arrive this week!)

Sugar Cookie Pops recipe from Southern Living. (Hat tip, Manic Mommies.)

Jam thumbprint cookies from Loralee’s Looneytunes.

Mama’s dreaming of a candy cane martini Christmas.

Skip to My Lou has photos from a wonderful Santa breakfast she hosts for her son’s basketball team (check out the cute snowman powdered donuts.) The first photo looks like a modern day Norman Rockwell painting.

Check out the Kohl’s Cares for Kids charitable giving program. The hubby’s aunt gave Miss C and Miss A adorable Dr. Seuss theme stuffed toys last Christmas. Frankly, everyone needs a stuffed Sneetch.

I love this Mom is Santa video. (Hat tip, White Trash Mom.) Apparently Mrs. Claus still likes to get it on with Mr. Claus!

Working Moms Against guilt is having a guilt free giveaway week so be sure to visit them and enter to win fabulous prizes (waves hand in a Vanna-esque motion.)

And last, a sweet video about two little girls in Kentucky getting a special Christmas surprise. If your heart doesn’t melt while watching this, well then you need to work on thawing that sucker out.

Happy surfing!

Technical Troubles

Filed under: Bad Hair Days, Bloggy Things — Blonde Mom at 9:28 am on Sunday, December 16, 2007

My apologies to anyone who tried to log on last night and enter the giveaway for the PeaceLoveMom t-shirt.

The URL for my blog was redirecting to my husband’s old business website. He chatted with someone online last night at Bluehost, the company that hosts my blog, and also spoke with a real live tech over the phone. Bluehost attempted to fix it but it was still redirecting to the wrong site this morning (sorry all you late-night pervs who find my site by Googling mom boobs…the joke’s on you!) Thankfully I am married to Mr. Technology and he was able to fix it himself. I’ve been with Bluehost for two years and have never experienced anything like this.

I lost the huge link post I had uploaded yesterday morning and there were some charitable holiday giving ideas that I want to repost, not to mention the funny kinky Mrs. Claus video. Because we all know how important that was.

Since my site was down for a good 12 hours I’m going to leave the comments open until noon tomorrow for the t-shirt giveaway. Some of the later comments to that post were lost but I have them in my blog e-mail. I’ll post the winner’s name tomorrow night. Thanks!

Birth Control Via Another Long Ass Line at the Dollar Tree

Filed under: Bad Hair Days, My Girls, Parenting — Blonde Mom at 7:00 am on Friday, December 14, 2007

To the mother of the cherubic, not yet mobile, baby boy peacefully being pushed in the green shopping cart the other night at Dollar Tree.

Yes, my 2-year-old regularly runs away from me in public places.

Yes, I normally look this stressed out.

Yes, if both my children decide to run away from me in a public place and run in opposite directions, I look doubly stressed out.

Yes, I did bribe my children to dutifully follow me to the checkout line, which always manages to go from empty to spilling over with customers with 25 items each and nothing but wrinkled dollar bills and pennies crammed in their pockets or debit cards that get rejected as soon as I so much glance that way, with the proposition of driving around to look at Christmas lights.

Yes, my oldest daughter said, “I’ll love you forever mommy if you get these” when presenting me with princess ring pops as we approached the checkout line for the third time and baby sister ran toward the household cleaners like the Tasmanian Devil.

Yes, I did reply, “I know you will love mommy forever even if I don’t buy them. We still have candy left over from Halloween! WHERE THE HECK IS SISSY? GO GET HER ARRRRRGGGHHHHHHHH!”

Yes, for a second I thought I might spontaneously combust from stress.

Yes, I did cut in front of you because by God I had to get out of that store before I had a nervous breakdown and I think you could sense that as you seemed to be afraid of me.

Yes, I saw you look at me and STEP ASIDE.

Rethinking that second child in 2008 now, aren’t you?

Buddha Baby, originally uploaded by blondemom.

Happy 37th birthday to the hubby! There’s no one else I’d want to eat fried pickles with at Sportsman’s Grille.

I love you babe with all my heart and then some.

The Argument

Filed under: My Girls, Parenting — Blonde Mom at 7:52 am on Wednesday, December 12, 2007

“Mommy, I do not WANT TO LIVE WITH MY FAMILY ANY MORE!”

Where are you going to go? We sure will miss you. What if we build you an apartment in the back yard?

“No, I’m going over there to Spencer’s old house!” (Points out the window next door to our neighbor’s, who moved this summer. Spencer was their rat terrier who sometimes drove me nuts with his nighttime begging at our front door.)

Who’s going to make you cinnamon toast for breakfast and fix your school lunches and read to you at bedtime?

“Well. I’m going to live over there by myself and you can bring me my breakfast every day through the bushes!” (Arms crossed, lower lip stuck out in super pout mode.)

I find it disturbing that my 5-year-old has told me, albeit in a huff of anger, that she wants to move out. I mean I don’t know where on Earth she gets her moodiness.

Wait a minute, isn’t there an Andy Griffith run away episode?

Oh yes, thank you Master Google. That makes me feel like much less of a horrible mother. I mean if Opie wanted to pack it up, it must be a rite of passage.

All I Wanted For Christmas Was Two Healthy Breasts

Filed under: A Tale of Two Titties — Blonde Mom at 3:54 pm on Monday, December 10, 2007

…and I got ‘em!

I went to my surgeon’s office today for a followup to my recent lumpectomy and I have no cancer, just good ole rubbery, normal, boring, common bumpy fibrocystic tissue!

I was about 95 percent sure I was fine, but that annoying doubtful worrisome 5 percent was making me nuts.

I’ll go back in June for a six-month followup and mammogram, but I believe my days of complicated mammogram films and general angst over my boobs is over. This started a year ago when I first felt that new pea-size lump.

My mother-in-law starts radiation next week so please continue to send positive thoughts and prayers her way.

Thanks ya’ll. No more booby talk from me. We’re still potty training Miss A and she’s on a strike right now, though, so the poop talk will continue…only the best on my blog.

Also the nurse practitioner told me it looked like I had no volume loss and we know what that means. Wonderbras would be a bonus, but not a necessity, in my Christmas stocking. I’m so glad I have good booby genes.

PeaceLoveMom Giveaway (Just Add T-Shirt for Instant Hipness)

Filed under: Reviews & Giveaways — Blonde Mom at 6:26 am on Monday, December 10, 2007

The winner of the PeaceLoveMom Grateful mom t-shirt giveaway is Andrea, who commented, “I like the Lucky Mom Rose Cozy Thermal. I am currently feeling lucky because by some small miracle I was able to land a Wii which is all my kids wanted for Christmas!! Anyway, I enjoy reading your blog. Thanks.”

Be sure to check back in January for my Go Baby giveaway. I also have giveaways planned in 2008 for Mabel’s Labels, Childish Clothing, and RoC.

I have a confession to make. We are a family of bad t-shirt hoarders. I have a drawer full of uncool charity walk and vacation t-shirts that for some reason I keep holding on to. Probably half of them should be tossed. Hubby’s t-shirt collection is also bordering on sad and my sweet father-in-law is well-known for his impressive collection of blood drive t-shirts spanning the decades. OK, only slightly exaggerating there.

If you need a serious t-shirt makeover, like me, look no further than PeaceLoveMom. They sent me this Grateful Mommy t-shirt and I must say it looks awesome with a pair of jeans and boots and will bring out your inner rock star, even if you’re chasing a child through the grocery. People will marvel, “My, she looks FABULOUS!” rather than focus on the fact that your child is about to topple a holiday store display and you are sweating bullets of Diet Coke out your forehead. Cindy Crawford recently told Oprah that these were her favorite tees, so you know they are super model fashionable.

Now, for the really fun part. PeaceLoveMom has offered readers of my blog a 10 percent discount good through December 31. Just use the code BLONDEMOMBLOG at checkout. And they’ve also offered a Grateful Mom t-shirt in the size the winner chooses, just like the one pictured, for a giveaway! (And no, that’s not me in the photo. I suffer from major white girl syndrome in December! And also? I own just one bra that makes me look at, um, perky.) Trust me, you’ll feel like an uber hip Dead Head mommy in this shirt, minus the illegal munchies.

For one entry, visit PeaceLoveMom and tell me which of their products you like best. For two entries, leave a comment on this post telling me which of their products you like best and link to my giveaway on your own blog. Comments will be open until noon Monday, December 17, and I’ll randomly draw a winner from all eligible entries. You don’t need a blog to enter, but you do need a valid e-mail address. Good luck!

Blog Love, Blog Thanks

Filed under: Bloggy Things — Blonde Mom at 11:04 am on Sunday, December 9, 2007

Yesterday I was pretty much glued to the toilet, couch, bed, or recliner and then the hubby was hit with the same gut wrenching ailment. I will give you a friendly tip: do not order the alfredo sauce based pizzas from Papa J or you will see the inside of your toilet for the next 12 hours. And please, no jokes about the special sauce. We’ve heard them. All I can say is thank God Miss C and Miss A ate the pepperoni pizza and thank you ABC Family for the holiday show marathon yesterday or the girls probably would have been bungee jumping from the ceiling fans.

Any way, I am way, way behind on thanking mah peeps for some lovely blog awards!

Nap Warden, the PhotoShop Mamanatrix, thinks I rock the crib.

I have a Fussy, hear me roar! Why yes it’s true. Fabulous Mommy Fussypants says I rawk.

Amy at Milk Breath and Margaritas says my blogging hits the mark.

Elizabeth at Table For Five says I’m nice.

Last, I wanted to thank Ann from Bun in the Oven for the lovely Christmas card (the first one to arrive at Casa BlondeMomBlog!) I have been reading Ann since the beginning of blog time, for me any way, back in 2005. Ann has mad skillz in the kitchen and her recent Hello Kitty cake sugary masterpiece had me drooling.

Thank you ladies for the blog love! Now go forth and visit my givers of blog bling. They are all awesome!

p.s. Tomorrow I’ll be posting a giveaway from PeaceLoveMom that you won’t want to miss! Now I’m going to rehydrate myself and know in my heart that buying the good toilet paper is always worth it.
