Overheard in our humble abode, just this weekend…

“Achoo!!! Bless you! You’ve got the humps!”

“Oh, poor darlin’, you’ve got the humps. It’s OK.”

Apparently Caitlin’s stuffed toy yellow lab and pastel kitty have a mysterious affliction prevalant among stuffed animals and known, quite simply, as “THE HUMPS.”

We were eating dinner while the humps diagnosis was made from the den, quite loudly I might add, and I’m just glad I didn’t choke on my steak or blow red wine out my nostrils.

This is one of those instances where I hope Caitlin doesn’t go to daycare and proclaim, “We’ve got the humps at our house!,” when her teachers ask her how her weekend was. Although it’s definitely not as bad as “doctor’s shit.”

This morning I was putting on my makeup in the bathroom and I peered out into the hallway to ask the hubby, who was checking his work e-mail on his laptop in the kitchen, if he had gotten a good night’s sleep.

Hubby: “Yeah, I did. When you came in to wake me up I was dreaming about buying a motorcycle.”

Me: “Oh, really. I bet you had your girlfriend with you.”

Hubby: “No, actually you were with me. And you didn’t like the one I was buying. You wanted something more Harley-ish.”

If that’s not proof there’s life after kids, even if in one’s dreams, I don’t know what is.

And now I give you talking toilets and floating, happy talking poop. Obviously the poop is oblivious to the fact that it’s about to get flushed. Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

So do you have a family potty pep song? We don’t, but we do a lot of sideline cheering.

p.s. What’s your favorite Super Bowl commercial so far? I loved the Budweiser muddy mutt in the parade spot and the Oprah/David Letterman commercial had us rolling.

And that halftime show with Prince was SMOKING. I don’t know if any of you are Prince fans, but I thought his halftime performance was incredible.

My maternal grandmother passed away seven years ago this month. She did not have a will and, unfortunately, it caused some avoidable family turmoil. This would never have been her intent, but she was convinced she would outlive my step-grandfather. (Read on …)
