Many of you who read my blog regularly know that I live in Tennessee. We recently had several tornados cause significant devastation (killing several people), primarily in Sumner County, which is just north of Nashville. Eleven tornados touched down April 7 in Middle Tennessee; the estimated path length of the tornado that touched down in Sumner County alone was 23 miles long. All these interesting factoids are from the Nashville Weather Blog.
I read an e-mail from a friend this morning about a worthwhile cause to share. An online petition asking ABC to select the local Hawkins family for an Extreme Home Makeover has been organized. Please go to www.hendersonvillehero.com to sign the petition online. And pass it along to anyone you know who would like to add their name to the list.

Amy Hawkins is a Hendersonville, Tenn., mother who became paralyzed during the tornado on April 7 – she laid her body over 6-year-old and 3-year-old sons, saving their lives! Her husband is a Brentwood firefighter and he saves lives every day. Like many families in our community the Hawkins Family lost their home. But this petition is not just about a home. Since Amy is now paralyzed she will need a special house to help make her life easier. She is truly a hero!
